      Current state of vpsBoard   02/04/2017

      Dear vpsBoard members and guests:

Over the last year or two vpsBoard activity and traffic has dwindled. I have had a change of career and interests, and as such am no longer an active member of the web hosting industry.

Due to time constraints and new interests I no longer wish to continue to maintain vpsBoard. The web site will remain only as an archive to preserve and showcase some of the great material, guides, and industry news that has been generated by members, some of which I remain in contact to this very day and now regard as personal friends.

I want to thank all of our members who helped make vpsBoard the fastest growing industry forum. In it's prime it was an active and ripe source of activity, news, guides and just general off-topic banter and fun.

I wish all members and guests the very best, whether it be with your business or your personal projects.

      -MannDude

  1. Hi Everyone, Looking for SSD-KVM EAST COAST (NY/FL pref.) 2Cores / 4GB / 60+GB SSD & 4Cores / 6GB / 60+GB SSD Budget $100-$150 Yearly I'd Pay yearly upfront but after testing the service for a quarter. Please mention yearly/half-yearly discounts. Monthly bandwidth will be way less than 1TB total, but I want a Fat Bandwidth uplink to major hops in US as the VPS will be servicing very busy portals, with thousands of concurrent connections. Thanks...!
  2. yeah I checked the Ping was Ok for me. and raised you a ticket to ask if I can install custom ISOs and Also Windows...
  3. Can you please give DC location and Test IPs please ? I need to setup a server for an Indian client, want least latency for them!
  4. Hi all, Can you point me to some good cli/gui tools to read Eximstats? I undersand Exigrep is what I should be using, but could not find a way I can have daily SENT mails and Monthly Sent Reports, deferred and in queue stats from it. Any good guides to get started ? Also, how can I setup Exim to fill stats into a MySQL DB like cPanel does, shall be helpful match up delivery records and clean my Mailing list. Thanks alot
  5. Phone verification?

from some recent research I touched base with "informatica" who claim to be No.1 in the World for ID verification services. They say they feed the Fraud record agencies world wide. May be pricey -- but worth a look http://www.addressdoctor.com They have email/phone/address verification
  6. Set up high Perf SMTP to send @ 5 mails/sec speed

Yes I'm considering PHPlist on the top of my list! Can you also recommend good hosting provider who will allow mass mailing ? ofcourse in a completely responsible and controlled enviroment where any SPAM complaints will be dealt with very quickly.
  7. I'm working on a project for a salesforce app for a 15 years old portal with a massive user base of around 3 Million subscribers and growing. The App sends our around 10,000 to 30,000 Transactional Mails like daily Birthday mailers, personal evaluations, predictions and other notification & the company sends Mailer campaigns 2-3 times a month to whole user base and want to increase the frequency. They have been blindly doing it from their 2 Servers, but now want an organized environment with detailed Reporting on Delivery, open and Click Tracking of transactional as well as Campaign mails. Outsourcing this to an ESP like Mandrill & sendgrid is being considered, however the costs are exorbitant for the client right now, and they have asked me to design and setup something "self hosted". Hence I seek some education in trying out a cost effective solution for the above scenario I have quite a good experience in Windows, and fairly good at Exim on Debian so I’m open to going either way… not biased to OS choices. I’m also fully aware of all details for a setting up a functional mail server, like SPF, DKIM, rDNS, Forward rDNS A record etc. Cost of hosting a VPS (win or linux) is fairly cheap nowadays, and since the mailing server will not have any other services like Web, DB, incoming Mails, etc., I guess I’ll be good to go with a 2GB KVM SSD VPS. Please suggest! Now the question I’m facing myself is, that all in all I will need a very efficient SMTP system to be able to send out 3 to 5 mails per second… and even more if they demand. I’ve been reading a lot and want to know if Exim is capable of sending mails @5mails/sec so that I can achieve threshold of 15000 mails and hour. I understand that I’d need to pause and delay in between to avoid Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo banning me for SMTP flood. I’m a bit perplexed and Anxious as I’ve not dealt with such huge mailing requirement uptill now so please bear with my questions to follow, I certainly seek education and information in meeting this challenge efficiently. Even at 5mails/sec speed it will take me 2-3 days to cover the complete mailing list. Can I open additional mail queues within Exim/Windows SMTP to parallel send mails from 4-5 or more different mail queues? If not, can I setup 2-3-4 separate VPS instances, and distribute mailing list into respective chunks (say alphabetically ordered) and make the VPSs send mails in parallel. I’m wondering what MTA system/software are big ESP services like Mandrill, Sendgrid, constant Contact using. I’m sure they are home baked speciality but still there must be some starting point to learn. That said I also need recommendation what software to use to manage my mailing list, Newsletter and Sending capabilities. Most important aspect is managing bounces (both hard/Soft) and one click unsubscribe for users. Again I’m open to get PHP/python web based software or even use a windows desktop app ( I can use remote Desktop to windows VPS). Thanks for reading up this long… To summarise, I need suggestions to setup a high speed Mail Sending system @5mails/sec and also manage my mailing campaigns, list, unsubscribe features through a good software.
  8. Running a lightweight GUI on your vps

So now at present in 2015 -- which version of NoMachine you still prefer ? 3.5 or 4.x ? which one works better than tightVNC ?
  9. Running your own vestacp instance

Hi, I have a Server running 2 web domains, I'm facing Mail delivery issues with them, typically php generated mails are either not generating sometimes, and sometimes they are landing in spam on Gmail/Hotmail. Both hosted domains are using Google Apps for incoming mails and this server just shoots out system (PHP) generated email only. Primaririly I setup my hostaname as "domain1.com" & created local mail domains on VestaCP too. but thought this was leading to some local mail devliery confusions, so I changed my hostname to "cloud.domain1com" while the rDNS record is still pointing as domain1.com to my IP 168.x.x.xx2 I'm still not assured if I m doing it alright, and want to be absolutely sure that mails are being delivered properly as these sites do a lot of order processing online. Kinldy Help me a solution
