      Current state of vpsBoard   02/04/2017

      Dear vpsBoard members and guests:

Over the last year or two vpsBoard activity and traffic has dwindled. I have had a change of career and interests, and as such am no longer an active member of the web hosting industry.

Due to time constraints and new interests I no longer wish to continue to maintain vpsBoard. The web site will remain only as an archive to preserve and showcase some of the great material, guides, and industry news that has been generated by members, some of which I remain in contact to this very day and now regard as personal friends.

I want to thank all of our members who helped make vpsBoard the fastest growing industry forum. In it's prime it was an active and ripe source of activity, news, guides and just general off-topic banter and fun.

I wish all members and guests the very best, whether it be with your business or your personal projects.

  1. Anti Spam Protection

I would've agreed with this, if it wasn't for the fact that they, just a few weeks ago, contacted us via unsolicited e-mail to offer their products. That kind of bummed me out as we had been seriously considering them as an option.
  2. What are some of the best VPS companies?

WiredTree is definitely the provider of my choice. Their services have been nothing short of stellar for me.
  3. So, let's clear the air...

Hey, I thought you were paying?!
  4. So, let's clear the air...

Wow..- So now that we got all that out of the way, who's up for Nacho's? Honestly though - most of us are part of the same industry, so it's natural to have opinions about competitors - but you could at least try to display them with a hint of self-respect. The amount of pure cussing just removes any respect for said opinion. Just for the record, I do believe GVH is a contributing factor to what's wrong in the industry, and I do believe it should shut down operations. I saw some offer earlier today containing unlimited SSD diskspace and unlimited bandwidth at $0.49 for life.
  5. Live chat software

I've used Tawk.to for quite some time now, and it's been great. Highly recommend it.
  6. We allow adding funds to your account, but not without having already active services. The reason for this is simple: If someone were to use a hacked PayPal account, or a credit card, I don't want a transaction of $500 added to their account using that credit card. It's one thing if the transaction is $2,99 - which likely does not affect the account holder much (especially since we'll refund it anyway) - but $500 could easily break their personal economy until it is resolved and refunded.
  7. VirtKick, the Open Source Panel goes Commercial!

It's absolutely ludacris. 15% revenue is an insane amount of money. For a startup, it might be a fine solution (especially if, which I assume, the 15% includes any transactions fees), but for any even remotely established company, that's a laughable amount. I'd love to meet whoever designed this idea.
  8. Let's Encrypt is a lovely solution, and I fully support it. Much like devon mentioned however, I do believe the more extensive productlines from companies such as Comodo, Symantec, GeoTrust and Thawte will be the focus points. But yeah, I'm sure they'll lose a substantial number of DV Certificates as time goes by.
  9. The Anti-Virus debate

Been using Kaspersky for the last couple of years. I was just about to renew that license actually, but decided to switch over to BitDefender. Appears to work fine so far - and according to the latest tests, they've been better than Kaspersky (although marginally) as of late - so hopefully it was a good switch.
  10. Best US state to register an LLC?

Delaware is a popular option, especially for foreign companies. As someone mentioned, they have rather well established laws and cases. I also believe their franchise tax is one of the lowest (is it around $300/year for an LLC?). Nevada is also popular, however, I'd definitely find Delaware more interesting.
  11. Future of Shared Web Hosting?

Yeah, no, shared hosting will not disappear. It's not just a question of price either - even if managed VPS's would come at aroudn that pricerange, they'd still fall short of the services a lot of web hosting companies provide. Keep in mind that whilst a VPS is all good and dandy, the hosting proivders specialize in their field, they employ technology that is beneficial for the singular cause of web hosting, and they can market it as such.
  12. What browser are you using?

Chrome is irreplacable for me. No browser I've tried has had a better AdBlock-plugin than the actual AdBlock available in Chrome - being the one reason I can't switch away.
  13. Introduction thread

Howdy folks! Appears to be a good collection of people here - and so we figured we'd stand awkwardly in a corner and watch as you party. Honestly though - looks like a good community, nice to be here!
