      Current state of vpsBoard   02/04/2017

      Dear vpsBoard members and guests:

Over the last year or two vpsBoard activity and traffic has dwindled. I have had a change of career and interests, and as such am no longer an active member of the web hosting industry.

Due to time constraints and new interests I no longer wish to continue to maintain vpsBoard. The web site will remain only as an archive to preserve and showcase some of the great material, guides, and industry news that has been generated by members, some of which I remain in contact to this very day and now regard as personal friends.

I want to thank all of our members who helped make vpsBoard the fastest growing industry forum. In it's prime it was an active and ripe source of activity, news, guides and just general off-topic banter and fun.

I wish all members and guests the very best, whether it be with your business or your personal projects.

  1. Hello, my Linux bash script is running curl commands in rapid succession (like maybe one or two per second) curl mysite.tld around 1400 times and after approx 1000 my server hostname is getting blocked in iptables: fail2ban is stopped CSF is running and is in allow and ignore list (public facing IP is not) and it says domains(hostnames?) are not accepted DDoS deflate having my my server ip, localhost ip and hostname in ignore list Please can You suggest how to find what is banning my server hostname? Thank you
  2. indeed, i can confirm im getting generic domains for around $2 less with Namesilo. Paying using Bitcoin on which they have great USD/BTC ratio. Their email support response speed is great & have WHMCS modules. Netearthone seems expensive after taxes/fees. Namesilo prices are final.
  3. I see enom says me $9.45/yr, but i was charged $11.42 (11.43) is approx. 20% higher, so its VAT i assume. I see internetbs, might be $0.5 cheaper for .com (not sure how big tax is added/if its added)
  4. Hello, is there any cheaper domain reseller account than the ENOM ones? I see ENOM charge 11.43USD for the .com registration (after VAT) being on a reseller discounted acocunt.
  5. thx, its indeed good, but i would like to check around 15 IPs and im unable to fetch results from Linux command Line using wget, curl, lynx. Even i use URL equiped with IP (the one seen on results page), It shows the page without results. Please any more ideas where i can extract status via Linux command?
  6. Hello, please which online tools or Linux tools/scripts to use when i know only IP address of the server and want to discover if this IP doing any bad activity like spam, fraud, phishing, attacks? So far i know these tools: http://www.blacklistalert.org/ - SPAM http://support.clean-mx.de/clean-mx/portals.php - spamvertising/defacedURLs http://support.clean-mx.de/clean-mx/viruses.php - virus/malware hosted above mentioned all allows to get result when i input IP. Please can you share online tools or Linux tools/scripts URLs which can help detecting bad activity while knowing IP only?
  7. in this case i do have access also to the host server (physical openvz server). How should i tweak the configuration please?
  8. Hello, im having OpenVZ VPS on my dedicated server and on the VPS im trying to run proxy using SSH socks, Dante, shadowsocks. Currently using shadowsocks. But no amtter which proxy im using, when i turn on torrent client on my home PC, proxy fails for couple of minutes to work (proxy data). Like it is overloaded or something, even websites do not load in my proxiffied home PC web browser. So i read my proxy provider (shadowproxy) tutorial on which values i need to add into sysctl.conf: So i tried, but as im on OpenVZ, im getting permissions denied on following: So i taken a look on my dedicated host openvz server: cat /etc/sysctl.conf|grep =|grep -v "#" net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1 net.ipv4.conf.default.accept_source_route = 0 kernel.sysrq = 1 kernel.core_uses_pid = 1 net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies = 1 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-ip6tables = 1 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 1 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0 kernel.msgmnb = 65536 kernel.msgmax = 65536 kernel.shmmax = 68719476736 kernel.shmall = 4294967296 net.ipv4.ip_conntrack_max=32760 net.ipv4.conf.default.proxy_arp=0 net.ipv4.conf.default.send_redirects=1 net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects=0 vm.swappiness = 10 net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_tcp_timeout_established=600 on the VPS it looks like this: (without newly added lines suggested by by the proxy developer) ULIMIT -a # ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) 0 data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited scheduling priority (-e) 0 file size (blocks, -f) unlimited pending signals (-i) 191532 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64 max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 1024 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200 real-time priority (-r) 0 stack size (kbytes, -s) 10240 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 191532 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited file locks (-x) unlimited lsof|wc -l 6539 # sysctl fs.file-nr fs.file-nr = 1200 0 2451492 So i wanted to ask if you can suggest what should i do to increase my VPS performance to be able to handle all connections and make proxy not stop responding? I can tweak both host and guest values. Or if you want me to do any linux command to get better picture, let me know i will execute. cat /proc/user_beancounters only failcnt value is privvmpages, rest zero failcnt Thank you alot
  9. Hello, please can i run some vzctl commands on the OpenVZ VM (VPS) once it is created/bootting/got mounted? I would like to enable --netfilter full (vzctl set $CTID --netfilter full --setmode restart --save) on all OpenVZ VMs by default and also enable tun/tap device by default for all new VMs (VPSs) (vzctl set $CTID --devnodes net/tun:rw --capability net_admin:on --save) any way to do it automatically after OpenVZ creates VM or VM is booted or is mounted? Thank you
  10. thx, but i think this do not give me any idea regarding I/O impact on the load average? While i have OpenVZ VPS is "%wa" value of the "top" command the thing that can give some idea about VPS I/O usage? so top gives me idea about CPU usage: Cpu(s): 16.4%us, 3.1%sy, 0.7%ni, 79.4%id, 0.4%wa (last "wa" value about how much VPS is overloaded regarding I/O?) the free gives idea about real RAM usage: used free -/+ buffers/cache: 423 1624 right?
  11. What is easiest way to recognize cause of high load on Linux? I have opportunity to execute some commands in case there is high load on Linux server and send an email with output. My aim is to easilly see if RAM or CPU or I/O caused high load. Which commands with tiniest, static output (so i can send output via email) can easily tell me which one caused it and possibly reason/detail about the issue? thank you
  12. Hello, i seek Your kind advice and opinion regarding classic abuse/fraud in web-hosting industry. a) There is an US company who provide dedicated server to the customer from Germany. b) The German customer using the server (one of its ARIN IPs) to provide shared web-hosting account to a customer from Nigeria. c) The Nigerian customer send an email from his web-hosting account and trick some Italian company to send him 100 000 USD (example: international bank transfer from Italy to United Kingdom). The Italian company then submit an lawsuit in Italy providing email headers of the communication with scammer and details of the transaction, details of the case. I want to ask what is the probability that Italian company will get the money back from: a) US server, IP provider b) German web-hosting provider c) Nigerian scammer What are the ways to get money back and how such a legal process will/can run? Thank you
  13. thx, it appears to fit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Website_spoofing
