      Current state of vpsBoard   02/04/2017

      Dear vpsBoard members and guests:

      Over the last year or two vpsBoard activity and traffic has dwindled. I have had a change of career and interests, and as such am no longer an active member of the web hosting industry.

      Due to time constraints and new interests I no longer wish to continue to maintain vpsBoard. The web site will remain only as an archive to preserve and showcase some of the great material, guides, and industry news that has been generated by members, some of which I remain in contact to this very day and now regard as personal friends.

      I want to thank all of our members who helped make vpsBoard the fastest growing industry forum. In it's prime it was an active and ripe source of activity, news, guides and just general off-topic banter and fun.

      I wish all members and guests the very best, whether it be with your business or your personal projects.

Overall experience: I am enjoying my vps. Instant deployment, fast CPU and I/O. The migration of my vps was without any issue. They asked me for a suitable time and managed to migrate my vps within minutes. The usable bandwith is not as high as in Chicago but way beyond their Tampa location. So I am not regretting the migration at all. This is one of my main mail servers (I do have two), something you won't run on a hoster you do not trust. They keep their ip ranges clean and I am running this mail server without any issue. Uptime: So a total of 9 hours and 16 minutes. For me as one of the first customers that were migrated to NY it was a rough start, but Secure Dragon managed to keep there customers updated and pulished a detailed RFO. Even after 8 hours of downtime I did not open a ticket for that, right because I was informed.

It’s the standard low-end hosting experience: ColoCrossing and OpenVZ, but, they have differentiated themselves in a few ways — by going through a reseller with their own provider-independent space (Crissic) they manage to avoid the poor IP reputation that is associated with ColoCrossing’s IP blocks, and indeed, the only reason I knew that the servers were on the ColoCrossing network was from when I ran a traceroute. I will spare the reader an in depth discussion about ColoCrossing’s Los Angeles network (mostly a Zayo and GTT blend), but because it is on ColoCrossing, there is of course no native IPv6 here. And since it’s OpenVZ, there’s no way to tunnel either. But who needs IPv6 anyway? I mean, DigitalOcean just launched IPv6 support very recently and Moisey is clearly doing the Scrooge McDuck stroke through his money-filled bins of VC money. I chose to deploy the Debian 7.6 64-bit template. Unlike my previous review, it appears that the template is in fact, in working order. Unfortunately Virtualizor provides templates that are preconfigured with a bunch of services I didn’t want, i.e. apache, sendmail and xinetd. I think that providers should provide minimal templates with no pre-configured services — the pre-configured services here just get in the way at best and are a gaping security hole at worst. If you deploy Debian here, you’ll want to remove these packages: xinetd, apache2.2-bin, apache2-doc, sendmail-bin and sasl2-bin. Installing another MTA, such as ssmtp will remove sendmail-bin for you. After removing all of these packages I was down to 12MB of memory use which isn’t horrible for Debian. After this I installed the actual stack I wanted to run, i.e. nginx, uwsgi and mysql. (Do not consider this an endorsement of nginx, as I think that nginx is not very good. It just happens to be the only httpd with support for uwsgi natively.) Memory usage was at 380 MB after the stack was installed and an application was deployed. To ensure that the BoltVM VPS would be able to handle the load of increased traffic, I ran ApacheBench on the server. With 20 in-flight requests at any time, the server was able to push out 130 requests per second, which isn’t too bad for a $24/year VPS. A VMware VM on my OVH private cloud only gets approximately 300 requests per second, but has a lot more memory and double the CPU cores available to it. In conclusion, the BoltVM VPS is a reasonable solution at the moment for someone who wants to deploy a small website with some level of performance guarantee on a cheap (i.e. $24/year) budget, as long as you are familiar with the downsides and security implications of OpenVZ and other container-based solutions.     Hey all, So it has almost been a year since I have been with Cloudshards. So here's my experience with them: I've heard a lot of good things about Cloudshards and the prices are really amazing so I decided to spin up a 2GB OpenVZ with them on 27/03/2014. As of now, I have 2 VPS with Cloudshards and they are working really great. Although the company name has the word 'cloud' in it, Cloudshards doesn't provide Cloud Hosting services yet. Uptime: 10/10 So far, no downtime in terms of both network and hardware. They have some downtime once every few months due to scheduled network maintenance or upgrade but they gave a good window of 3 to 5 days before carrying it out so that all the customers will be well prepared for the scheduled downtime. Network: 10/10 Their network connectivity worldwide has very low latency and is really superb! Connectivity to Asia was especially great and I've gotten only 160ms from Singapore. :) Here's a ping to my Los Angeles Cloudshards VPS Support: 9/10 Their support team replied within 4 hours and they read through my issues carefully. I've once experienced unreliable network connectivity and opened a support ticket with them. Within a few hours, they replied to me and told me it was because there was a DDoS on the node and offered to transfer me to another node. I accepted the transfer and it was done within minutes! :) Prices: 10/10 I spun up a few VPS with lots of RAM and they only cost $7 for 2GB. For the price and service offered, it is a really great deal! They also offer KVM storage with lots of space and it is very affordable too. I've also asked for a customized upgrade from 2GB to 4GB and they did so without much hesitation. Overall, their VPS offer very smooth performance with great network speeds and latency at really affordable price. Thank you Cloudshards for giving me such a memorable experience! :)

Hi ,this is my review on hudsonvalleyhost.com , two months ago i got a managed VPS from them and here is my results : - first ,there entire IP range is blacklisted on Spamhaus SBL , not for sending SPAM but for sending ALL kinds of viruses and malware ,as Spamhaus said here : https://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/query/SBL228367 means that ,ALL emails coming from there ip's will be marked as SPAM (even if they are not ) and even ALL domains hosted on there ip's will be blacklisted too . the funny thing is that you cannot do anything about it ,because hudsonvalleyhost have to contact spamhaus directly ,and you have nothing to do with that . - second , there sales team said that they allow email marketing activities on the server ,but , after i paid for it ,the support team said NO they do not allow email marketing on there servers ,and guess what ,they don't offer a refund too . so ,basically i paid for the VPS ,spend more than 300 $ to setup my mailer and finally i got a blacklisted ip's with a very bad customer support and no refund . this hosting provider is a wast of time and money ,so ,buyers BE AWARE !!!

Overall experience: My first thought was yet another host in Atlanta. But what I got was a snappy vps that handled the load well. Compiling Ruby or Python was fast and I was able to use 99% of the RAM. Their support is fast and they are very polite - even on dumb questions. Network is fast and solid. Only thing on the bad side is their lack of IPv6 in Atlanta. So one of the providers that is not overselling small packages. Their routing to EU is good and the ones using Level 3 are top notch: 85 ms. So yet another host that does things right. Uptime: 3 minutes of downtime for a whole month. I will refresh the uptime report every two months.

It is hard to find something bad out of this well build service but there is one single point that is nagging me: They don't want to support IPv6 - want not can.
