Hi everyone, i'm after a cheap storage box for offsite backups of VPS Containers.

CPU/RAM aren't that important but needs to at least be usable.

Looking for at least 2x2TB Drives With RAID SW/HW Not fazed.

Looking for bandwidth from 5TB+ with Decent speeds to Los Angeles, and North Carolina.

Price range, low...

Regards,

Ryan

I'd prefer not to use any Kansas City providers for this as i also have one of my nodes there, so wanting a completely neutral place to have storage.

So, that rules out

 - ProviderService

 - Hetzner

 - Dacentec

 - CorporateColo

 - Datashack/WSI

Regards,

Ryan

Put the backups of your LA data in NC and put the backups of your NC data in LA?

That becomes too expensive, as i would need new servers for both locations. prefer to have to purchase one extra server.

Get one of the 30 euro servers from SoYouStart in BHS.  You'll need to watch and grab one quickly when they put some up for sale.

I don't think Hetzner is in Kansas City. :)

SoYouStart is almost always out of stock, especially for the lowest priced servers.  But you can sometimes snag one of the middle ones.

That WSI box is good to know about!  I'll keep it in mind for my own future requirements.

If it's for backup and you can live without RAID, there's always Kimsufi.

The best deal I've been able to find though is Hetzner, through their robot auction.  They have a steady supply of i7-2600 and i7-3770 servers with 2x3TB (for sw raid) in the $40-ish/month range (35 euro minus the VAT credit assuming you're not in the EU).  All of those servers seem to be in their Falkenstein, DE facility though.  They have a separate facility at Nuremburg and if you get one of their full priced servers you can apparently request that it be installed there, so you can have moderate geo redundancy by having servers at each site.

Versaweb in Las Vegas has some good offers now and then.  Haven't looked recently.

Reliable Hosting Services in West Virginia / border of Maryland has L5420's at low enough rates. Can get 2nd drive as a one time cost:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1434672

I recommend those, because unlike lots of cheap stuff out there, these both are facility owners.  Less likely to have them go out of business in a heartbeat and dealing with facility versus middleman who probably not on site and has zero clue about any issues.

And if you like Kansas City and want some diversity, I do believe Joe's Datacenter has their own bandwidth - not on the WSI mix like other known providers.

Hetzner, Voxility, Bigkesh(yes a hackforums host, but even still, they're good company), AlexHost

Those are all the companies I know of that could even do that for a reasonable price. Besides that, no clue.

Check out VersaWeb's clearance servers. If it's solely for backups then I'm sure you wouldn't be too focused on CPU etc.

They have a server for $49 that comes with a 500gb hard drive, you can just add my hard drives on in the configurable options however.
