A reminder about 'vzctl console'

Geek

Technolojesus
Verified Provider
Just through some random Skype BSing with @Francisco I brought up the OpenVZ console and figured I'd mention it here for other providers...If you're against snooping around client containers through vzctl enter even if people know of other ways ... or if ya want to try to put an end to client "suspicion" but need access to a client CT for technical reasons, you can correctly receive permission to use their root password and use 'vzctl console $ctid' (sometimes you need to hit enter a second time to reach the console)... the login loads up a terminal device driver, thus creating a record of access in wtmp while avoiding any unnecessary I.P. addresses revelation on the provider's side....  Ya know, if you're into that whole honesty/transparency thing...

You can also do nifty things like watch the CT restart processes and find out where something's dying if you're having a container-specific problem.

Snacks for thought.

Peace.
