Crissic Migrating Jacksonvile - Much Downtime Planned

It's entirely about cutting costs, but they can't say that publicly without bothering customers. QN has space in Miami, so financial logic says move Crissic to that space. The problem with following financial logic is that it doesn't usually translate to customer satisfaction.  I think this was...

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

I have one of the $15/year specials that for the most part doesn't get used. Haven't been sent any notice regarding this changeover. I'm doubtful that QN will allow customers on the $15/yr specials to renew.

    DigitalOcean Migration

These migrations have been on-going. I've had to migrate a few droplets over the past few months. I would suggest initiating it yourself, that way you know when it will happen.

    WHMCS v6 has been released

WHMCS version 6.0 is now available per http://blog.whmcs.com/?t=102658   I have yet to update my dev install from an early beta, so I can't speak to any issues, but I'll be waiting for a few inevitable updates before using it in production. EDIT: Looks like their servers are getting hammered...

ResellerClub/OrderBox DNS down for around 6 hours

We use ResellerClub for some of our domain orders and haven't seen any issues on domains that rely on their DNS servers. However, I did ping some of the nameservers and there is packet loss, so there may be an issue.

ARIN Stock Changes Feb 2014 - Down to 1.38

Saw this come across my inbox a few minutes ago from David Huberman on one the ARIN mailing lists: Looks like exhaustion may arrive much sooner than July.

Jonny Nguyen - GreenValueHost - Raided by Police.

It's been a few years since I've had to sign such a form or use a school network, but from what I know from family members and past experience, the school district I went through requires students (and the parents) to sign a form acknowledging what you cannot do on the network. SSH is/was on the...

"Definitely Possible" : Microsoft Considers Open Source Windows.

I think this is a questionable reason for people to stick with Windows. Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud (Premiere, Photoshop, etc) is basically the industry standard right now, and they fully support Windows & Mac OS. Before Adobe it was apple, but they killed Final Cut 'Pro'. With only a few...

Tools and resources that exist to combat fraudulent, malicious and abusive customers?

Sure, MaxMind can be bypassed, its happened to us, but in general we haven't had any major issues with them. We (generally) dont allow orders from IPs owned by service providers (non-ISPs) either. Too easy to order a VPS in the US and run a VPN. We also pay pretty close attention to the email...

Tools and resources that exist to combat fraudulent, malicious and abusive customers?

We use MaxMind with WHMCS for one of our brands. Its usually very good at catching most fraudulent orders, great since its automated and will automatically close orders. We resort to FraudRecord for a second opinion if needed.

How often do you update your servers?

+1 for KernelCare. We run it on all of our VPS nodes and cPanel servers. Like others, we update everything a few times a month or when we are notified of a vulnerability. Recommend the Rack911 HostingSecList for keeping in the loop on vulnerabilities.

Best US state to register an LLC?

Tax laws (but it depends on your state) mostly. Corporations usually have more legal regulations to follow such as shareholder meetings and corporate structure (at least where I live).
