Which I understand that, every one has to make ends meet, but atleast request permission before sending out our emails to some provider. In most cases, I just won't buy from a place that mass mails spam around.

I would try enabling the error log for the module. I know when I experienced a similar error, it ended up being a IP resolution problem so not exactly related but the logs did help point me in the right direction.

In the past we did try phasing out paypal after the fees got a bit high and their policy on intangible goods. We tried out 2checkout and a couple of other payment providers and in the end, we stuck with paypal as its widely accepted and used by a majority of online shoppers in the US these days...
It very well could be but then again, when you depend on cash instead of credit, it makes for more responsible spending habits. I myself only have 1 credit card for personal and only 1 for business. If we cant pay for whatever we want upfront, its not something we absolutely need.
