Should each website on a VPS have it's own IP?

Does it even matter anymore? Someone I help with a VPS asked me why they only had 1 IP address and told me they need one for each of their websites (3). I told them it doesn't matter, it's not needed, but they still want me to ticket the provider and request more IPs so each website has it's own one.

It's not needed. Unless s/he needs SSL certificates on each website, or have high traffic (helps with site speed and crashing).

Set up Virtual Hosts with multiple domains.

Each website does *not* need its own IP. Anyone who says that now a days is stuck in the past and quite literally *and* realistically stupid and stuck in the past -OR- trying to get extra IPv4's for some abusive or stupid ulterior purpose.

Yes, and old IE in Windows XP can't do HTML5 either. So to work around that issue, install firefox or Chrome and problem solved.

Like...  Sorry but it just looks like a giant grouping of random characters.  Almost as if it was a password.

There's another thread where this issue came up... using separate ip's can be helpful if a site gets ddos'd.  You can nullroute the dos'd address and the neighboring sites keep accepting traffic.

It is not needed, though could be very helpful in certain situations like DDoS attacks and spam issues.

Additionally your host might require you to submit a justification on the extra IP's, so you might end up needing some SSL certs either way ;)

Depends. Mail servers, yes, but we have virtual hosts, which cPanel WHM utilises on it's default setting.
