    Sell me a VPS

What's the point of this thread?  There are tons of those.  DO, Vultr, OVH, Scaleway (invite only for now), etc.  Most smaller hosts don't bill hourly though.

Scaleway Cloud Launches x86-64 C2 Servers: Dedicated Avoton C2550 and C2750

I don't see any claim in the Scaleway blog post that the VPS cores are dedicated, and that doesn't fit the hardware picture we've seen.  The vps is on a c2750 which has 8 cores, so if the cores are dedicated there are 4 vps per box, and since the vps has 2gb of ram that means there's 8gb of ram...

Scaleway Cloud Launches x86-64 C2 Servers: Dedicated Avoton C2550 and C2750

I'm surprised it turns out to be an Avoton and that it's an x86 at all... I guess it's an attractive offer in line with Kimsufi and the cheap Online.net and Hetzner dedis, especially with the hourly billing, but if they're going x86 I'd have hoped for some faster cpus like the new low power...

Datashack (Kansas City) has stopped selling colocation

Is this some kind of collapse of cheap colo, maybe related to ipv4 depletion?  I'm still doing ok with rented dedis, but have had Joe's DC in mind for years for when I'm ready to scale up.  It's the only place I've heard of where you can get 4 amps of power with your $40 or $50 a month.  That...

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

If anyone cares, Adafruit sent me an in-stock notification about 7 hours ago, but I only clicked the link just now and it was out of stock again.  It still means units are arriving, so I'd say add yourself to the notification list and jump reasonably quick when the email comes.  I myself am not...

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

I don't think the US sellers have had any stock yet, but there are some UK shops that have them.  There is a Hackaday article claiming there was a big manufacturing run before the announcement so there will be a decent supply coming out of the gate, unlike the pi0 which sold out almost...

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

They are on the Adafruit and Element14 sites but not currently in stock.  Element14 is accepting preorders and predicting delivery in late March.  Adafruit more realistically doesn't make predictions but you can enter your email address and they notify you when some are available.

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

Odroid C2 also looks good to me.  A little slower than the XU4, but is fanless, has 64 bit cpu, has 4k video, has most of the XU4's other good stuff like gigabit ethernet, and is a lot cheaper than the XU4.

Storage VPS Options in Europe - Time4VPS?

FWIW, I've heard from several people that sshfs is inherently not that reliable in terms of data corruption etc.  It's convenient sometimes but I'm not sure it's a great approach to backups or other large storage.

2016 Phone / VOIP standout services and products

I've been using vitelity.com and am pretty happy.  There's been another vpsboard thread or two suggesting alternatives.  Here's a LET thread: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/66374/looking-for-a-sip-or-asterisk-trunk maybe not quite what you want.  Of course I'm suspicious of anything...

Storage VPS Options in Europe - Time4VPS?

There's a lot of mostly-favorable comments about time4vps storage over on LET.  Main complaint seen is that the i/o can be slow.  I was scared at first by the very large discount for a 2-year signup but by now I feel likely to give it a try at some point. I tried a Hetzner BX storage plan for...

    high availability shared hosting

Fenzox, what exactly are you offering? HalfEatenPie, thanks, Cloudways does look interesting, but it basically looks like managed Wordpress (etc.) hosting on an underlying cloud VPS with no failover.  Am I wrong about that? CenTex, yes, you're probably right; the site is currently with...

ARM has legs. Real world use.

Looks like the interesting thing about the C2 is that it's a 64 bit processor, using A57 cores, though still not as fast as the XU4.  Maybe there will be an A72-based follow-on to the XU4 sometime.

hubiC by OVH 25 GB of free storage in the cloud!

Thanks for that update.  Hubic always seemed too good to be true, so I didn't want to rely on it.  The announcement about Public Cloud storage pricing dropping to .004/GB is interesting, and while maybe it's wishful thinking, they make it sound like they're getting rid of the bandwidth charge as...

    Hetzner releases new VPS line

DomainBop, yeah, I saw the announcement about BX snapshots but haven't been able to figure out what it means.  Surely they don't let you make N separate copies of your whole BX with different data in each one.  It has to count against your storage limit somehow, but I couldn't find any...

    high availability shared hosting

I'm trying to help someone with a fairly simple, low traffic Wordpress blog (1000 hits/day tops) that's commercial enough that outages have to be minimized ("My web site is dowwwwwn!!!").  I'd hoped to get a simple cpanel web hosting plan with multiple servers on a multicast IP or something like...

    Laptop with Long Battery Life

The octo-core Atom that I know of has throughput in the same ballpark as a dual core laptop i5.  You're better off with higher single thread performance for stuff like browsers, which are the most demanding typical laptop app other than specialized tools like photoshop, plus games.  I don't...
