    NanoVZ OpenVZ 128 MB (France)

Fwiw, there is some confusion in the above.  Düsseldorf (DE01) was not moved to Falkenstein--it is still in Düsseldorf.  There is a separate node (DE02) in Falkenstein.  Both are now somewhat better than they were in the past.

    Motivation for scripting

You must be easy to please ;).  Most of us see problems for which there is no satisfactory existing solution, so we code our own solution if we want it enough.

    research: San Francisco colo

Hmm, I found http://www.colocationamerica.com/colocation/ showing some reasonable prices, but they are LA only, have to call for other locations, and I'm not optimistic but I might give them a call.  Thanks!

    research: San Francisco colo

Hmm what do you think the best I could do in SF is?  $100 for 1U and 1 amp instead of 2U/2A could possibly be ok.  Spending a bit more might also be ok but out-of-town starts looking better at that point.

    research: San Francisco colo

This is research for possible future needs, not a service request per se:  for now I'm happy with my dedis and am just looking ahead to the next phase.  But I'd like to know if there's such a thing as budget colo hosting in San Francisco, which preferably means within the city proper, not "Bay...

    Server Hardware

If this is for just one server and you don't have very special requirements, it's probably cheaper and less hassle to get a dedi from a big provider.

    CentOS released for ARM devices!

I've been using Scaleway.com ARM servers for a while and they work pretty well.  You can't buy the hardware though.  And ARM storage appliances definitely do exist.  But ARM stuff currently competes only against the low end of x86 stuff.  At the high end, there's Power8, but it hasn't gotten...

Quadranet Needs to BAN SMTP. Spammer UTOPIA.

What does this mean about blocking IP's?  Blocking email or complete nullrouting?  I have a Crissic vps that has been working pretty well but I don't send any email from it and don't plan to.  I could see not renewing it but it has around 9 months before expiration so I'm wondering what problems...

ARM has legs. Real world use.

I have a few benchmarks that I'd be interested in XU4 results for.  I think these things should have an M.2 SSD connector instead of EMMC.

Thanks KuJoe!  I posted a comment on your blog and then realized it was yours :).

ARM has legs. Real world use.

Drmike, I'd be interested in a power measurement of that Odroid C1 with the cpu busy (4 processes in busy loops) if you could try that sometime.  Similarly on the Pi2 of course.   If it matters, the new XU4 should be around 2x as fast as the C1.  I might get one sometime.  Meanwhile I'm happy...

    Raspberry Pi Zero Released

I'd worry about the pi0 itself failing if deeply embedded somewhere.  I don't think they build those things to the highest reliability standards. The guy with that blog about power saving posted a correction, minimum power draw is about 80mA rather than 30.  That affects batteries of course...

Holiday 2015 "Special" Purchase Regret Confession Thread

I think if you want to run a browser on a thin client, you want an rpi2 or similar, since browsers and web sites have become so slow and bloated.  The rpi2 has 3x-4x the cpu speed of the zero and the extra cost isn't that noticable once you add the monitor, keyboard, mouse, desk/chair space...

Delimiter - KVM Resource pool / StorageVPS - Black Friday W/e 2x/4x resources

Meh, started signing up for object storage, but saw in the TOS that Delimiter says they can monitor content stored in the system.  I wouldn't store anything edgy without encrypting it first, but still felt annoyed enough that I decided not to sign up.  Other hosts don't have stuff like that in...

Holiday 2015 "Special" Purchase Regret Confession Thread

I don't see the need for HDMI on most of those little ARM boards.  I'd want to run them headless.  I guess it's a worthwhile feature on some of them (like the RPI 2) if someone wants a mini desktop, but on something like the Pi Zero of CHIP, they may as well leave it off.

Holiday 2015 "Special" Purchase Regret Confession Thread

Delimiter has a pretty attractive special for that.  Dual E5420, 16GB ram, 1TB HDD or 120GB SSD, 10TB BW, 1x ipv4 and /64 ipv6, at $200 a year ($16.66/month).  I don't know what additional ipv4's would cost, but if a VPS is free, then a LES-like NAT setup might be good enough.  Order link.

    Raspberry Pi Zero Released

The Zero is brand new so of course the quantities are low so far.  They'll sell more but I see it as sort of a repackaging of the older RPI compute module that didn't get any traction.
