How to stop webhost frome entering vps without permission?

On XEN/KVM you could run CryptFS if you have a CPU that has AES features. A host could still dig through your memory to find your hashing key but that's going pretty HAM to get at your stuff. For OpenVZ it's purely a trust thing. I can't speak for other hosts, but for us, whenever we need to...

List of providers who offer DDoS protection.

Especially when they're also throwing 18 months of free service into the mix as well. I almost feel bad for all the OVH VPS providers that are going to get suckered by their own DC. I said almost because, really, it's OVH, you should've known better. Francisco

What is everyone doing for IRC?

We just run everything on our own IRC network so we have cloaking there and then I use MIRC. You'll probably want to stay on freenode due to user reach, but it may not be a bad idea to either install ZNC/etc on the vpsb box or another filtered box. Irssi is also nice if you like using...

    Spider Duo

I gotta say. These things have the slowest virtual CDROM's when you aren't on the local LAN with them. I'm installing OS' in LU and it's just taking it's time. Francisco

    ARIN proposes new fees

There's more than a few schools that assign a dedicated IP, with full RDNS, for each student. I can see that as a useful way of nailing down abuse and such but yeah. Honestly, how many schools have more than a /12 of IP space? Francisco

    ARIN proposes new fees

I only skimmed so I didn't read about ASN's. As of right now ASN's don't get charged if you have IPV4/IPV6 resources as well. Francisco

    ARIN proposes new fees

It's a proposal for now. They're collecting feedback for the next 60 days before they do anything. I'm sure the big wigs will contest the bump against them, but considering they have only a handful of ISP's that fall under it, they'll hopefully do right by everyone else. Francisco

No ploop support in the kernel, or kernel is way too old. - CentOS 5.11

We used to run it some but we had a lot of softlocks. In the end we weren't sure if the softlocks were because of vswap being completely broken or if it was conflicts with .18, glibc, etc. Francisco

    ARIN proposes new fees

This is all just a proposal for now! ARIN is collecting feedback for 60 days before they do anything ARIN put out a proposal for new fees. Most of the proposals don't affect any of us since a lot of them are aimed at the 'extremely large customers' that have /12's and larger. I've attached one...

BuyVM announces Europe, Anycast IP's, Floating IP's, & Bandwidth pooling!

Ahaha :) They're just bent a bit, a bit of bending or maybe even a prybar will get them straightened out. Honestly I expected things to be a lot more banged up than some minor smacks on the handles. Given how some of the domestic shipments I've seen, I expected to hear that the SSD's were...
