This do sound interesting but I'm not sure if I have enough time to put in enough effort to be of any use.
Really depends on what you are working with.
Opening a gazillion files over lan/wan can be painful if you have bad latency.
It's all about the connection.
I would copy the images to a sub folder and then convert from that sub folder to the original folder.
That way you still have the original image if something goes fubar.
The script would be pretty easy to create in the language you prefer.
If I remember correct there is a 2 TB limit on the free version.
Also depends on what features you are looking for, if it's for a simple NFS/CIFS share then it's ok.
