Do you think brands are important in the VPS market?

Definitely not. A fancy-pants logo doesn't guarantee reliability and good customer service. Believe me, I know.

    The pets thread

Twinky. Coolest Rabbit ever. She died recently and I was devastated.  With her sister, Ring-Ding. I never thought I would have rabbits I had to rescue them. After initial difficulties they turned out to be great pets. Very bling bling! My master - Miepie.

What do you use your Raspberry Pi for?

Headless qbittorrent runs fine here, and is pretty light on resources with a great webUI (port 8080) sudo apt-get install qbittorrent-nox

What do you use your Raspberry Pi for?

Bought another one and made it into a slick media centre using xmbc/Raspbmc. Glued it to the back of the TV. I put openvpn on it so my girlfriend can watch BBC iPlayer inc. HD. She's thrilled! I did run into some problems, including 2 corrupted SD cards, but they were all related to power...

What do you use your Raspberry Pi for?

Eventually got one :) Should have done it earlier because this is one nifty device for the money. My main purpose was to create a zombie backup server using BTsync under Raspian. I cobbled together an unused 1tb drive, powering both it and the pi from a USB hub. I found an old charger that can...

    Any Ruby fans?

I used to do all my scripting in Perl, but I switched to Ruby and haven't looked back. It is both succint and powerful. I find the syntax less of a barrier for me personally. It's also MUCH easier to debug. My needs are fairly basic though - mostly I'm just collecting and mining gobs of data...

    openVPN - how many clients?

Guys,  Thank you all for the solid advice -it's appreciated. The case for separate client keys has been elegantly made. I shall proceed with the plan. Cheers :)

    openVPN - how many clients?

Thanks :) I want to understand why. I know it is possible. If my users are not tech-savvie (my Mum e.g.) and there's no chance they will be up to mischief. Other than that, does it present an external security risk, or is there a risk of 'crosstalk' or server crashes? Thanks again :)

    openVPN - how many clients?

Hi, I usually don't bother with christmas presents (bah humbug!), This year I'm feeling more humane and I'm thinking to set-up a few regional VPNs and allow a select few friends and family to use them.   Max 10 users total, mostly light and legal use. Maybe the odd BBC iplayer or Hulu stream...

Did you know a 3rd world trade center tower fell on 9/11?

Here's footage of the same building from a different angle, which clearly shows that it was on fire. As for the collapse - the perimeter supports buckled under the heat. It is a perfectly reasonable hypothesis.  The fires burned unhindered because firefighting resources were naturally...

Thought Experiment: A Completely Anonymous Web Site

Thinking outside the box, what if you were to do away with the weakest link - hosting - and instead publish your content using Bittorrent Sync and a one-way secret?

    How to decipher everything

Unsurprising but still a wake-up call. It's bound to trigger innovation in more secure systems, which surely is a good thing. I suspect that further revelations will show how corporate espionage on this scale is being used to manipulate the markets. In the end, this only damages business trust...
