I can see interesting practical applications with improved tech. Could be huge in medicine, for example. But I do fear for the inevitable swarms of narcissistic google drones surveilling the streets on behalf of NSA. I predict many tears, broken glass and black eyes before an acceptable balance...

I just installed crunchbang from a USB stick using this. Very slick distro -  definitely a keeper. 

I use Denyhosts with very strict rules and it seems to perform very well. I find that some VPS providers are much more prone to SSH attacks than others. With one (fairly respectable) host was bombarded with root login attempts, mostly from China. With my current provider I have seen not one...

Yeah, I just set-up a 'junk' gmail account to use for stuff like this, signing-up for boards etc. Anybody who compromised it would be sorely disappointed!   Dropbox is easy to set-up but I've moved-over to BTSync which is also very easy, not on cloud, and no data limits.

I don't send mail from the command line, but I write scripts that do ;) For example, you could have a cron job mail you daily server stats, or notify you of changes in the authlog file, or a ruby script that scrapes websites and mails you the results, or automatically sends mail to your Mum on...

A combination of Multi-Tabbed Putty (MTPutty), Kitty, Keypass with keyagent. MTPutty has a tree view where you can organise servers into folders. Server nicknames appear in the tabs. You can also send commands/scripts to all open terminals simultaneously. And the whole thing can be made portable.
