Hetzner Adds 8-core ODROID-XU4 ARM Based Server Line

Scaleway uses its own hardware (https://www.scaleway.com/features/) and mentions (https://www.scaleway.com/press/ ) that they use a Marvell SOC and fit 912 servers into a rack.  Hetzner's deployment sounds more experimental but the Odroid board is likely to be a lot faster than the Scaleway...

Hetzner Adds 8-core ODROID-XU4 ARM Based Server Line

Scaleway network was good in the short tryout that I did (downloaded some source code and compiled it, among other things).  I haven't tried the Hetzner XU4's but assuming it's the regular Hetzner network, it's ok, a little bit spotty, you probably know about it.

Hetzner Adds 8-core ODROID-XU4 ARM Based Server Line

Nice!  And the 1/2 hour trial link still works.  But the 24 hour and 1 month trial offers seem to have disappeared, or at least they are no longer linked from the main page.  Oh well, the price reduction makes up for it ;). Thanks for the unixbench score, which is pretty consistent with my...

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

Are you (or DomainBop) resellers?  Do you have a way I can buy some certs?  Thanks.

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

Yeah, GoGetSSL was the other place I was thinking of with cheap certs, but I felt put off by their site gimmicks, so I preferred buying from Crissic.  I also liked that SklyarM is a regular here. I don't want to be a reseller, which will probably get me on spam lists.  Just want to buy a few...

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

I think the $5 certificates were slightly profitable since other sellers are charging that for them, or even a tiny bit less.  But I was more comfortable buying them from Crissic--the other places that I know of always seemed a bit sketchy. Meanwhile I got a renewal invoice for my Crissic vps...

    Hetzner releases new VPS line

Oh that's interesting, I hadn't heard it before.  But lots of hosts give out /64 and Hetzner is the only one that does this public whois thing, as far as I know.  What's going on? Drmike, I agree giving out such huge subnets is wasteful, but there's 2**64 of them to go around... one nice thing...

    Hetzner releases new VPS line

These have quite a bit more resources per dollar/euro than their old VPS plans and they start cheaper: 4.64 euro incl VAT (3.90 euro if you're outside the EU) for a 1GB server with 25GB of SSD and 2TB bandwidth, not bad even by vpsboard standards.  They go up to 32GB/8 cores/600gb ssd for about...

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

I used to buy SSL certs through Crissic (https://my.crissic.net/cart.php?gid=12) and those aren't available any more either...

Hetzner Adds 8-core ODROID-XU4 ARM Based Server Line

Thanks!  I was able to try that out and run some benchmarks.  Hand-wavingly I'd say it's around 1/10th of the speed of my i7-3770 Hetzner dedi, which is a pretty fast box.  That means with their 10 unit, 1 month deal you get the computational equivalent of a fairly serious dedi for 1 month for...

Hetzner Adds 8-core ODROID-XU4 ARM Based Server Line

Both offers are interesting.  The Hetzner one seems to have more network resources and maybe a faster cpu (scaleway is mysterious about what cpu it uses, claiming it's equivalent to an AWS M3 Medium instance).  The local disk has its attractions, as does the cloud storage.  The Scaleway cloud...

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

My JAX vps is working and reporting 27 days uptime.  Don't know if that means it hasn't been moved yet, or if it means some openvz container snapshot thing.

Looking for (urgent!) help on an archiving project for a few days

Could you ask Jason if he could get the IA to assign you a few raw machines temporarily?  That is you'd get shell access and run rsync or whatever on them, instead of going through the IA file upload and cataloging pipeline which is probably what's causing the speed restriction. Of course...

Looking for (urgent!) help on an archiving project for a few days

I thought ArchiveTeam was associated with the Internet Archive, which has tons of storage and bandwidth... is there a reason you're not using archive.org machines?

Who was your first VPS provider?

My first personal vps was the AlienLayer 192MB plan, like several other people here.  It was one of the earliest really cheap plans, cheap enough that I could buy it for experimentation without having an actual use for it.  I was very happy with it even though it was horribly unreliable by...

    BuyVM(Review) awful experience

Hsin, looking at this crap, it appears: 1) You got your VPS setup within the 3 hours stated.  Then you wanted a bunch of additional services that weren't part of the deal, and went berserk when that wasn't completed instantly. 2) There was a mixup over the refund policy and Fran told you to...

    Repairing dead mobile drive

Those mass market usb external hdd units often use an hdd built for the application, with usb directly on the board and no sata port.  It looks like that's what you have.  Yes, test the usb socket connectivity with a multimeter.  USB connector is the first thing I'd think of.  Micro usb...

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

They have said explicitly that they will renew existing services at the same prices (see above) but it looks like they won't sell any new services at those prices.  I have a Crissic $15/y VPS coming up for renewal next month so we'll see.

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

If anyone cares, I just got a bulk email from Ilan Mishan (Quadranet CEO) about the acquisition... says about the same stuff we already know here.  Key graf is:

Crissic has been acquired by Quadranet

I've had one of the $15 JAX servers (512mb ram, 100gb disk) for the past year and it's been fine.  I don't know what to make of KuJoe's benchmark.  Probably these servers (like most any, especially with HDD's) have times of congestion.  I do notice if I let the server idle for a few days then...
