    Singapore VPS - Specific Datacenter

Linode has a Singapore location now--I don't know what data center.

    Australia / Asia

I have a Low End Spirit plan with RansomIT in Australia and it's seemed pretty stable from what I can tell.  It's below the specs you want but it's ridiculously cheap.  I haven't used it much though.  They have more serious plans here: http://www.ransomit.com.au/

Back To School special - 42% OFF for Raspbery Pi

Is this still on?  What kind of hardware mods?  Are you going to offer the rpi model 2?  What are acceptable payment methods (I don't use paypal)?  Thanks.

SSD Hard Drives Going Read Only

This sounds like the Hetzner robot auction except I don't remember their having an SSD offering like that.  I have the i7-3770 with 2x 3TB sata drives for 28.70 euro/month.  That configuration actually dipped to the 26 euro range a couple months ago though it's higher now.  So their offering the...

ODROID-W (Wearable) Dev Kit on sale at Ameridroid

The odroid thing too seems more interesting if you're already using odroid stuff.  The hardware is nice but it's an obscure product and it's remaindering of items that will stop being available.  Unfortunately the raspberry pi is what seems to have captured this market.  I prefer the beaglebone...

LAN based VOIP solution OPEN SOURCE Linux

In that case I think you can just have continuous peer-to-peer connections between everyone and everyone.  There'd be no way to distinguish active 2-person conversations, from conference calls, from nobody being active.  No central server needed.

LAN based VOIP solution OPEN SOURCE Linux

How many people on the network?  I've wanted something for a while that would use either a central server or some kind of tree-like network, where all nodes would be connected and sending encrypted data or padding at voice rates (pretty low in context of a lan) 24/7, so it would not be...

    How cheap can they go?

Wow, I'm skeptical but popcorn is cheap.

    tell your SSD failure stories

Anyone had an SSD in a server fail? What brand and model?  Capacity?  How long had it been in use?  Any idea how many block writes it had handled? What was the failure mode--bricked, read-only, data corruption, ... ? Did you do any periodic SMART checks while the drive was still working? ...

    FOSS video conferencing software?

Thanks, I'll look into these and someone else also mentioned Jitsi, which I've been looking into a little.  Ideally the program should be able to broadcast to a lot of simultaneous clients, like 100's (probably not 1000's).  Is that likely to be an obstacle, given enough server resources?

    FOSS video conferencing software?

I'm looking for multi-person video conference software comparable to Google Hangout, that must be FOSS and self-hostable.  Any suggestions?  Someone on irc suggested talky.io which appears to be non-FOSS but uses a FOSS webRTC library.  WebRTC does seem like the way to go, as opposed to requring...

3 ssd disk array, what raid level can I use?

This is about SoYouStart, which has fixed configuraitons.  It's not possible to add a 4th drive to the 3 drive systems.

[ovz] large VPS, how you backup with low/no suspension time?

Backing up running databases doesn't really work: the snapshot can end up in an inconsistent state.  You want replication.  The backup is another mysql instance on a separate machine, taking updates synchronized with the primary.  You can also have hot failover that way.

    MegaVZ OpenVZ 1024 MB VPS

Nullroute has cleared, ipv4 is working again as of earlier today.

    MegaVZ OpenVZ 1024 MB VPS

Yes I'm on the .37 address which is currently nullrouted.  From my end it's not a big deal, I can still ssh by ipv6 and I'm currently running some of my stuff from it on DE2 instead.  The other stuff can wait.

    MegaVZ OpenVZ 1024 MB VPS

Hmm, I have a 128mb vps on I believe the same node and the node seems unresponsive on ipv4 right now, but ipv6 is working ok.  Might be caused by DDOS on the shared ipv4 address.  Earlier in the week there was a several hour incident where the system was working but very slow because of a...

Data retention law passes in the Australian senate. Service providers will be required to store your

This is a bummer.  I've been using fastmail.com for email since they are one of the most privacy conscious email providers.  Their servers are in the US and elsewhere, but the company is based in Australia.  I wonder if they are affected.

    NanoVZ OpenVZ 256 MB (Germany)

Subject line says 128 meg but meminfo says 256, what's the story?  What does free -m say?  Are you paying 3 euro/year for this or is it a megavz.com product?

Your interest in a Hybrid Cloud / IaaS Platform?

Oh ok, I see what you mean, yeah, storage separated from the server is another characteristic of clouds. Currently I'm using enough storage that I'm fairly sensitive to its cost, and most of my stuff is on a Hetzner dedicated server (2x 3TB disks and 4-core i7 cpu) that I also use for most of...

Your interest in a Hybrid Cloud / IaaS Platform?

By "cloud" I assume you mean hourly billing.  What is the biggest hardware you are planning to offer under this scheme?  Will you have single tenant servers?  How much will they cost?  Thanks.
