    Another movie shooting

Me too, each time I go in vacation I surely check the local CO2 and pressured air shooting stand. I also have a big bow, target and arrows. Frankly, I enjoy the bow more, but pistol/shotgun are more rare so more interesting.

iwStack, a Prometeus project - who is using them and network throughout

Yes, as I said, we have the 100 mbps version over the filtered IPs, that should be enough of filtered traffic under DDoS. I am guessing that speed tests, due to very high speed (since cachefly is in same DC) are triggering the DDoS protection so for a while everything is kept under 100 mbps. I...

iwStack, a Prometeus project - who is using them and network throughout

We have partnered w Seflow.it for the DDoS protection, that is 100 mbps per IP guaranteed. It might be that their protection is triggered on tests due to very big speeds from cachefly and all the rest of the tests are over the filtering machines.

iwStack, a Prometeus project - who is using them and network throughout

Hello again ! The filtered IPs are indeed slower, we have partenered with seflow.it for them. They should be used only if you are under DDoS risk. Our DDoS protection is mostly aimed to protect our network and as an insurance it will not happen that we have to suspend or nullroute production...

iwStack, a Prometeus project - who is using them and network throughout

Hello ! Due to the semi-ban (rMember special group where people which do not agree with the admins are placed), wont be able to edit my post, so please forgive the typos and multiple posts (eventual). 1. We used to have a 200 mbps limit so the 1 gbps port of each node will not be hogged by 1-2...

Test your server's upload and download speed

If you consistently get similar results from various providers, drop me a line so maybe I can arrange something for Dallas.

    Managed VPS

IPT only needed when you need extra functionality, such as blocking some countries or rate-limiting connections. It is a serious problem for newbies to manage those, including with graphical interfaces. fail2ban can also become a problem in itself. Logwatch is a very good point. Thanks.

    Managed VPS

@wlanboy You can also setup redundancy of some sort, across providers and across the world, chances to fail the same time are astronomical. If I were the OP I would keep the managed server (well, it is a very nice quote for full management) and get a hobby one where I would try to setup a...

To Phone or not to Phone

I never called any provider. Not because of the fees, but I want all the things logged in a ticket. I also do not want to be recorded and the record placed some place risky. Besides, unless you are renting servers, it is not worth the hassle, my 1 $ a month VPS is down ? Tough luck, move...

Haha, yes I remember the story when he was on IRC writing about an ongoing raid, I learned a new American word then, swatted :P

And fighting hacking attempts with DDoSes is the right course of action. I will keep it in mind.

    Portalable USB Drives

+1 for adata, they are not perfectly reliable, but in the same league with WD if i count the number of failures on prolonged usage. At the end of the day anyuthing can be abused and break (even without abuse) so, at least dont pay too much for it the 10% more reliability wont make up for a...

    Deep freeze

I was in the mountains for 2 days. It was 17 C at 1000 m high (3300 ft). Some 62.6 F says the converter. Snow resists only in deep valleys on the northern side of the mountain. No ski at all, even the artificial snow machines have big problems so we went in a 30 Km trip. There we saw tons of...

Big RAM VPS - who actually uses them and for what?

It depends. If no games are allowed, then 1-2 GB are mostly enough for mundane usage, however, throw in a few MC servers in an OVZ box and RAM will be needed. We have people use all 8 GB RAM in OVerZold and not maxing the CPU. In fact I move them around so the big ram ones will go on the...

    Red Hat, Inc Aquires CentOS

I also think they do not want to make it non-free. CentOS gained a lot of market share that RHEL lost, it is normal to gather them together again, I dont see an issue there, however I did see CentOS going worse as of late, it is better than going belly-up IMO, RH now has Fedora for the...

The truth about Mao and BuyVM

Well, no ban, only thread lock :) I will be disappointed :P I think it was Francisco's best interest to have it die here. I came here exactly because this is his home soil, even though it started at LET, both recently and in the past when (even if we admit he didnt own the place) was his home...

The truth about Mao and BuyVM

Francisco ruled LET more or less when he banned me and now he supports this place. He cannot ban me but the attacks continue and at least one admin is clearly taking sides, we will see if there will be a majority for banning. See, I do not condust this disclosure of his tactcs on LET where he...
