Can you access the gem command in your test jail?
For me, it was just something that I have noticed in the past day or two. In some ways, it is a good problem to have. It means the site is growing, and I think that we all want that to continue to happen. I am sure you will get it ironed out.

This installer only supports the latest Debian and Ubuntu versions. There are some issues right now with the Ubuntu portion that I am working on. If you run this on Debian 7 Wheezy, you should have no issues.
When you say on a budget, what kind of budget are you talking about? A Canon 40D can be found pretty cheaply, and it performs very well in low-light situations.
Do you already have any lenses? Those are where all the money goes. If you don't have good glass, you can't have good pictures.
