    BIOS And pyhsical security

Datacenter or desktop? For datacenter, my employer owns the DC and just worries about physical and access security.  No one gets into the DC who isn't a pretty small subset of employees/contractors.  We don't lock down BIOS but there is a lot of encryption on our systems because of contractual...

iPhone 6* & Apple Watch Discussion!

No it's not - it's called Apple Watch  :P And frankly it's pretty disappointing.  Forgot all those wraparound OLED screens - it's just like other smartwatches.   Actually, no - it's worse.  To do anything with it, you have to also have an iPhone with you.  Not just "be in Wifi" or "have a...

CloudAtCost Oversold, Underpriced, What to do? Launch new "Feature"

I could see a service where you trade off very cheap price for having your instance shut down if not in use... ...if it was still 2006. The problems here are  That not the way when they sold it.   In 2014, I can get a VPS for so ridiculously cheap that this tradeoff no longer makes sense from...

File / Folder / User permissions regarding /var/www

Nope.  755 is executable by everyone.  775 would also be executable by everyone, btw. 5 = read + execute 7 = read, write, execute Easy way to remember is: Read = 4 points Write (Modify) = 2 points Execute = 1 point Just add 'em up.  Read (4) + Execute (1) = 5.   Then left to right, it's...

File / Folder / User permissions regarding /var/www

No!  That makes every file in /var/www executable (and executable by anyone).  Is that really what you want!? Maybe find /var/www -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \; find /var/www -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \; ...which would make directories and files world readable, but nothing executable...

Believe it or not this kid learned everything on his own...enjoy

I can't decide if it's intentionally humorous or just complete imbecility. I usually default to thinking the latter.

ARIN Stock Changes Feb 2014 - Down to 1.38

So...did it last? ipv4 still looks available on demand and cheap. Now it's September... ;)

Why not go to college and get an education...

Coffee. What are you drinking and what would you recommend?

Coffee...who cares how it tastes?  How is that relevant?  It's like asking which color of syringe you prefer for your drug of choice  :D I like my coffee like I like my women: tall, dark, black, and bitter.  OK, that's not true - my wife is a normal-heighted ginger who is actually a pretty...

I went to freebypass.com and was surprised to find a halfway decent web site.  This couldn't be an @mtwiscool site, could it!? But then I read the blog... Spelling aside...well, I guess we should all thank porn producers from saving us from a global epidemic of rape...cough...

KuJoe, you just are driven to offer free web hosting, aren't you  :D

    New look

The business of the hatched background was a bit much for me...switched back to 2013.  But for those who like the new, party on!

I know - wtf, @AThomasHowe !? How dare you be reasonable on the Internet. Are you say you would just...agree to disagree?!? What is the net coming to...

    The knife thread.

OK, so I guess that's just fascist and not quite as insane  There are cities in the US which have blade length restrictions. What I find enduringly hilarious is that there are cities in the US where nunchaku are illegal.  There was a scare in the 1970s when every middle schooler saw...

    E-mail services

I confess one of the reasons I use Mandrill is the first 12K emails a month are free and that's several orders of magnitude more than I'm likely to ever need  :D

    32MB Club: Now self sustaining

You haven't really proved this.   What is the definition of "self sustaining"?  I'm guessing this means you have enough cash to pay your server bill for the next three months or something? How many users do you have?  I'm thinking as more pile on to that lone SATA drive, the sustaining is...

    The knife thread.

UK/Australia has insane, fascist laws...no surprise there.  Seriously, not being able to carry a pocket knife or a multitool is ridiculous.  Heck, not being able to carry a gun is ridiculous, but I digress... I live in Oregon, so...why not buy local.  I carry a Columbia River fold-out knife -...

    E-mail services

I like Mandrill.  When I first signed up (free account) my mail went to backlog.  Opened a ticket and it was fixed in 30 minutes - fraud checks, new account, etc. Since then, has worked fine.  Not huge volume - maybe 50 emails a day tops, often less.

Is there such a thing as asking for too much money during an interview?

Ideally, you don't discuss salary until you've passed the interview.  That way they're psychologically committed to you.   Honestly, interviewing and looking for people is a pain - sifting through the haystack to find the needle.  So once they've done the work and decided yeah, KuJoe's our man...

I think we've all long suspected that KuJoe worked for the NSA...

I think we've all long suspected that KuJoe is a Korean professional basketball player... From that article: "Their current manager is Lee Man-Soo." I believe that is the Korean name for @MannDude
