I never used a vpn service from a provider, only installed vpn software on some of my personal servers (virtual and dedicated).
That way I have a few options to connect different devices using the easiest vpn function for that device.
Perhaps it wasn't the old one that broke? And the issue is with the box itself and this is as "good as it gets" with that brand because of drivers etc....
My mum had an Adobe application who sorted everything using the Exif info in the images, didn't matter where/how you saved the files.
Can't remember the exact name but it worked very nice.

Do you have a static IP on the LAN connection?
Firewall disabled on both NICS?
Is it the built in wifi NIC you are using? whats the brand of the NIC or laptop(?)
You need two enabled AND connected network connections, none of them should be bridged.
You don't bridge the connection on your windows if you want the linux to use internet over the Windows machine.
In windows it's called ICS or Internet Connnection Sharing. first of the Micrsoft explanation...
To be fair (I haven't checked exact dates since I'm on "education" in Dubai, but the fact that CVPS owned Azzavps was not known at that time.
