    VoIP and Phone Numbers

Why not use voip.ms? They have incoming SMS support/forwarding (outgoing is a bit limited ATM but should work for your purpose).

Looking for private 1/4 rack colo for a few backup servers in the U.S.

No access is needed, we use remote hands (and are willing to pay for RH services).

Looking for private 1/4 rack colo for a few backup servers in the U.S.

Thanks for the great info, we are already in touch with Dacentec and Corespace. I would probably avoid Fiberhub and FDC for now :) Is HVH actually good considering all this CC drama? We have a few servers with Servermania, and they aren't bad, but their colo pricing was quite high last time I...

Looking for private 1/4 rack colo for a few backup servers in the U.S.

Thank you. We already have a rack @ GoRack and they have been great so far, but we'd like to have some redundancy. Our experience with Fiberhub was not very good, although it was a few years ago, not sure if they got any better. Will get in touch with Corespace, never heard of them before.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I will get in touch with Dacentec. Any other suggestions?

Looking for private 1/4 rack colo for a few backup servers in the U.S.

In this case we would acrtually prefer metered bandwidth on GigE, or 100 mbit on GigE 95%.

Looking for private 1/4 rack colo for a few backup servers in the U.S.

We are looking for a decent place for our backup servers with inexpensive bandwidth. There will be very little outgoing transfer (if any), but we must be able to push 1 gbit for short periods of time (that is, when we have to restore from backups, hopefully never...) Power: 120V 10A Uplink: 1...

    DD Script

I would use apache benchmark tool (ab) to benchmark the whole setup. You could do it at certain intervals too, then feed results into mrtg or rrdtool or whatever. If for some reason I absolutely had to make sure I/O is fast, then I'd probably create a big file (200 GB if possible), and then...

    WHT Gold? OMG...

I was browsing WHT today and noticed something very unusual (huge animated GIFs in sigs, and ridiculous-looking "gold" avatars that look appropriate for a gfy.com kind of forum). I was sure WHT got hacked. Apparently, I was wrong! For $5000 a month you are allowed to trash WHT completely...

    DD Script

Reminds me of this: http://geekahost.com/db/show.php?mode=overview&server_id=21 (scroll down) One day people will realize that this dd test is pointless in 99.9% of cases.

    Gauging interest in new feature.

After we launched self-migration in our KiwiVM panel, the nodes that were running on conventional hard drives (non-SSD nodes) were thrashed quite badly... like 10 minutes after the announcement, so we had to put some limits. But overall, my observation is that established customers tend to not...

    BandwagonHost OpenVZ 128 MB (NL)

Thank you for this great review. We are currently shipping a batch of new servers to NL and will be migrating all old customers over to the new hardware (beefier servers, pure SSD RAID-10). There will be 30-60 second downtime associated with this upgrade.

RamNode looking for a new panel

Theoretically, one could pull this off with 20k (outsourced), but you'd have to be *very* lucky to find the right team (and you'd still have to cut the specs in half).

RamNode looking for a new panel

To be completely honest, the budget seems to be quite low... Unless Ramnode is willing to outsource it.

    First step: Geo database

Wouldn't it be better to tie not to country/state but to actual ping/network performance? Example: 1) Visitor comes from IP 1.2.3.4 to your "default" server (A-record has a small TTL) 2) Your server shows website, as usual 3) Meanwhile, your server measures latency to the customer's ip from...
