    LXD Containers: Cram 14.5X More Guests On A Server

    It's more like OpenVZ than KVM in the sense that it's containerization rather than true virtualization, but the reason for the comparison to KVM is because Canonical is positioning it as a competitor to KVM in OpenStack deployments.

    Vultr and false claims.

     one day later: OVH rolled out OpenStack Sandbox instances on its regular site today with an SLA: €3 /2GB RAM/100 Mbps unlimited/10GB local SSD disk/SLA  http://www.ovh.com/fr/cloud/They also added a big RAM line (30GB-240GB RAM) and CPU line (7GB-120GB RAM with up to 32 cores).  The 1GB was...

    BlueVM sold / change of ownership? (UPDATE 5/14: Now owned by ChicagoVPS)

    @ #winning: fix the registrant and address on the domain's WHOIS, they're invalid. BlueVM Communications LLC was voluntarily dissolved yesterday which makes 'BlueVM' the company officially dead (search for  'bluevm' http://www.sos.state.co.us/biz/BusinessEntityCriteriaExt.do?resetTransTyp=Y )

    Humor, on April 3rd 2014, Cloud Expo's official Twitter feed tweeted that Vultr was "16X faster than #AWS". https://twitter.com/cloudexpo/status/451696508099129344 Cloud Expo trivia: OVH was a platinum sponsor of Cloud Expo 2013 in NYC There have been some attempts to define "cloud".  The US...

    PayPal Has to Pay $25 Million for Being Sketchy as Hell. $15,000,000 in user refunds plus $10,000,00

    PayPal's revenues from that transaction would be $3.70.  The $100 would be accounted for as "total payments volume"  (PayPal's 2014 total payments volume was $235 billion) slight correction from my previous post: PayPals's media site lists 2014 revenues as $8.03B not...

    PayPal Has to Pay $25 Million for Being Sketchy as Hell. $15,000,000 in user refunds plus $10,000,00

    some perspective: $25M is 0.32% of PayPal's annual (2014) revenues of $7.9B. The median U.S. household income is $52,047 so a 0.32% fine would be $166. TL;DR #1 a $166 fine probably wouldn't be enough to make a lawbreaking citizen change their ways, and a $25 million fine is unlikely to make...

    Mobile VOIP solutions?

    +1 for Callcentric.  I switched my home phone to them a  few years ago (and I've had fewer problems than I had with the Verizon landline they replaced) VOIP.ms is another one I'd recommend.  I switched to them for my company's business PBX phone system a few years ago.

    Combozo.com -> %50 OFF Liftime VPS 8GB Ram $99/year 4GB Ram $66/year 2GB Ram $33/year [Phoenix]

    Interesting SEO.  Running a web hosting site on combozo.com and a web hosting coupons site on combozo.net (combozo.net contains combozo coupons, and has pages for other well known hosts but only a handful of coupons for the other hosts...pages mainly for "SEO") I'm not sure that your "SEO" is...

    Vultr and false claims.

    None of the above when talking about "4x faster" :P  "The competition" they're referring to is AWS and Rackspace. I'm assuming the "4x faster" refers to I/O speed (although it could also refer to UnixBench scores for its "mid-size" instances) since the "learn more" in the ads and on their site...

    32 or 64bit system? Which one to use?

    256MB (and below if I had anything smaller) are the only VPS's that I still use 32-bit for... (I do have a couple of 10-yr old IBM Pentium 4 workstations with 1GB RAM and 1.5GB RAM that use 32-bit because they don't support 64-bit) The other reason to go with 64-bit is some Linux distros (like...
