Want to have your server pwned? Easy: Run PHP

PHP is fundamentally flawed: errors like using variable that doesn't exist are non-fatal, the functions have inconsistent names (base64_encode, urlencode), request variables can be arrays, and $_SESSION is a variable instead of a library that can be configured per application. The only reason I...

Using Mysql and a Ram Disk

If you want to store your tables in memory, you should use the MEMORY engine instead of RAM disk. The InnoDB and MyISAM engines are specifically designed to have some guarantees about data integrity (with InnoDB offering stronger guarantees; they will not mark query as completed until data is...

Looking for a VPS provider that allows backing up whole VPS and downloading the backup.

If the feature works it would be qcow2 file which you can boot KVM immediately from. If you use volume method then it would be attached as a block storage device to a VM, which you can turn into raw disk file with dd. I'll update post if the image retrieve feature works, should just be HTTP...

Looking for a VPS provider that allows backing up whole VPS and downloading the backup.

Well, we have snapshot functionality and you can turn the snapshot into a volume (detachable block storage) and attach to a VM, from which you can then download via the VM; probably you can find something easier to automate though. Edit: actually OpenStack glance has image-download command...

vpsBoard Top Providers of 2014 voting.

RamNode: 1; reliable and fast instances, usually get email notifications when there is a problem, friendly staff, several locations OVH: 1; included DDoS filtering that usually works decently; although have had some long downtime periods recently; BHS support is helpful, IE/UK not so much...

    Private Network

So, what if all users use 1gbps across internal network continuously? It doesn't need to be billed since capacity is generally much larger, but there is still obviously limit on the usage.

Hm, that does sound good too. I suppose automatic notification has problem that customer can just change details next time he or she registers.

    Fraud Record

You are talking about how you don't feel like notifying customer, but haven't mentioned any issues posed if you notify customer. If FraudRecord required companies to specifically say they are using FraudRecord in terms of service, and notify customers after a report is submitted, that would...

How to stop webhost frome entering vps without permission?

Hi, are you saying that you want to sell webhosting on your VM but don't want to be able to enter your VM? More seriously, there's no way to 100% stop someone who has control over the physical server (host node) where your virtual machine is residing from accessing the virtual machine, simply...

    Fraud Record

I personally think the issues posed by FraudRecord are a subset of those introduced by the increasing availability of big data. For example, there's a lot of debate about to what limits should be placed on the information that insurance companies are allowed to use when analyzing risk of new...

    Webmin exploit on the loose!

Well this exploit involves issue in bash, so if you've updated bash to the version that's not vulnerable to "shellshock" then you're safe from this exploit. And if it's only open to your IP then attacker can't get to it. So not sure what your question is? I mean it seems like you basically...

    Q3 2014 Lowend Provider Results

+1 to Dylan, RamNode has CVZ vs SVZ plans but people don't consider separating that into two categories. If it's the same people responding to support tickets (e.g. serverian) then it's like product line.

Alabama man gets $1,000 in police settlement, his lawyers get $459,000

He didn't get money for what he did; he got put in jail and possibly fined for that. He got some of that punishment back as $1000 because the police used excessive force. Watch this video and maybe it will make more sense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqH5KrKaw7Q Yes, he ran into a police...
