The expensive certificates generally involve a more thorough screening of the organisation behind the website. This involves man-hours. However, the only certs I know of that are >$500 are either wildcard certificates or those from Symantec. They are selling the brand more than selling the cert.

We've been using StatusCake and frankly, quite happy with them except for their virtually non-existent support.

Sometimes, we just have to "suck it up". Dropping PayPal will definitely hurt business since it is the most popular channel for online payments. Until they have a strong competitor fighting for their marketshare, PayPal will be indispensable. 

I went to namecheap.com and searched all the names I have in mind. Once I've sorted out the available domain names, all that's left is to pick one I preferred. :)

It's ridiculous in my opinion. Not everybody is interested in getting listed on a paid directory nobody visits. In my opinion, checking the government's company registry website is the fool-proof way of verifying.

The ones I use are NameCheap, NetEarthOne, eNom and Resell.biz. I highly recommend using NameCheap or eNom for important domains and NEO for domain reselling.

After spending about $400+ with Adwords, I've only seen one conversion. Not very effective it seems.

Fortunately like the rest of the posters in this thread, so far we haven't seen any fraudulent orders from the UK. Not that we receive lots of chargeback/disputes but Brits are pretty much one of the safest bet.

We tried installing an EV SSL before but it didn't work out very well for us since Comodo requested some ridiculous validation by getting listed on Yellow Pages. What on earth has got Yellow Pages got to do with anything?

Over the years I've seen lots of echeck payments but luckily they all went through. Most of them unknowingly sent one and got frustrated when their account wasn't setup instantly. Some were hard to please but eventually they were all resolved amicably.
