    Potential employer not mailing back

It's rude and unprofessional not to close the loop if they've spoken with you.  If you'd just sent in an application then maybe not, but if they've had conversations then they should let you know what's up, even if only to say they've decided to go with someone else. I wouldn't hesitate to ping...

JQuery (or just Javascript) Widget Sets?

What do you use for JQuery widgets?  Or just plain Javascript. Things like sliders, spinners, progress bars, etc.  I've used JQueryUI and it's worked great - just wondering what other (free) options there are there. There are numerous commercial packages of course.

    No Disparagement Clauses

I wonder how long before this comes to the low end world: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/you-just-gave-up-your-first-amendment-rights-2014-03-19

    Tips for an Upcoming Provider

My advice: 1. bring back Joel because even Mike Nelson will tell you he's the best ever. 2. I prefer Tracy for Krow 3. The weekly invention exchange waa hit or miss. 4. Prefer the mads over Pearl. 5. And most importantly, you must...oh wait...ah...OSTK...um, never mind

LowEndNuclearWarRedundancy. This will make a great movie.  After the nuclear ruin, @KuJoe walks the Ruin, rebuilding SD.  Just a man, his gun, and the last Debian CD-R in the world.

So Burst will be 100% Cogent? :)

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

I wonder if they still let employees colo for free.  I once read an anonymous Burst employee saying that was the only reason he worked there. (Yes, I agree he was probably math-challenged, but...)

    Self-Hosted Web Proxy?

There are some web proxies that are impossible to ssh tunnel through.  Squid, etc. are fine but some of the Microsoft web proxies resist tunneling...or at least my attempts.

Elegant Themes Raising Rates: $39/yr now $69/yr

Elegant Themes is a well known Word Press themes vendor...surprised to see their annual subscription price nearly doubed ($39 -> $69). I like their themes...not sure quite that much.

    Self-Hosted Web Proxy?

What are some good choices for a self-hosted web proxy that works like anonymizer, et al? In other words: 1. Fire up my web browser 2. Go to URL I'm hosting on a VPS.  Probably htaccess'd 3. Type in a URL 4. Browse the Interwebs 5. Bask in ultral33t secrecy OK, step #5 can be skipped...

RamNode looking for a new panel

Not sure where you are but I agree with your general sentiment.  The first world is very expensive. In the USA, there are no good developers making less than $100K per year.  There are plenty of developers making less than that doing tweaks to Visual Basic.NET gas station point of sale...

Need an OS recommendation for children.

All this is interesting but let's got down to real issues here. For a 4-year-old: OvZ or Xen or KVM?

[C++] extreme fast counting of files in directory

That is about what I'd expect.  A lot of that .5 is probably the perl interpreter start up.  I suspect if that count was run multiple times in the same script, subsequent calls would be faster.
