Have you ever been given more resources then you paid to receive?

We do it all the time.  We have to advertise the lowest common denominator on our plans to make sure we meet minimum specs.  Delivering something lower powered / lower spec'd than what was ordered is a big no-no (unless cleared with customer first with appropriate compensation). However if...

What do you use your VPS for?

Is this because you are using something else, or just lack of time for side projects?

    Email hosting?

Why? We have quite a few users who do this. In fact our mail server cluster getting to the point where it's possibly even more powerful than our web server cluster....

How does a NAT VPS work?

Just to expand on that thought, the router could actually itself be a vps, and then create a virtualized network between the router and the NAT'd VPS.   That is actually exactly the concept used by CloudStack in their advanced networking setup.  Each network gets its own virtual router.  Pretty...

Any good deals on dedicated servers?

Late to this party, but send me a PM if still in the market.  We've got some older core2quad's collecting dust that we'd accept reasonable offers on....

Does anyone offer Xen servers anymore?

our low end vps started as 100% xen but we've switched over to kvm for the most part in that segment (particularly as things got annoying when centos dropped official xen support). our cloud stuff still runs on xenserver, but that product category is a little pricier than the low-end vps segment

How much do you spend on Virtual Servers?

Don't have any outside our network. So the way I take that is what we've spent building out our infrastructure, servers, etc.  And the answer makes me cry a little.... ;-)

What do you consider valid justification for IP space?

Your post makes this sound like this is a new thing. :-) We've required proof since we added dedicated servers to our hosting portfolio in the late 90's... As for what constitutes proof -- anything that cannot be technically accomplished without a unique IP address. Yes, SSL still generally...

    Chromebook, yes or no?

If you already have a laptop you don't mind carrying around, probably not much point for a chromebook. Having said that, I picked up an Acer 720 refurb for $150 for travelling and it works like a champ.  Installed Ubuntu with chrUbuntu, and there's really nothing it can't run at this point...

    Any CenturyLink customers here?

Dedicated line to.....? That's always the "selling point" vs. cable companies.  "No sharing capacity with your neighbors!" Which if course is bologne.  Everything aggregates somewhere.  Whether its your floor, building, neighborhood, DSLAM, etc.  There's a bottleneck "somewhere", the question...

    VPS vs Dedicated

Like others have said, start with what you need and scale.  Don't blow your entire budget on future expectations.  Upgrading and scaling is fairly painless (we do it for our clients all the time without them having to lift much of a finger other than testing). If you don't grow according to...

ICANN suspends Brandon Gray Internet Services (AKA Domain Registry of America, DROC, etc)

They started this practice before the EPP system was in place and all that was required to transfer a domain was a contact approval via email (and even that got overlooked at times). Currently I believe that DROA states you will need the EPP code and once you return the form they will send you...

Do you sell domain names too?

We've over domain name registration since day 1.  Even at a premium there are many clients that just like to have everthing under one roof instead of dealing with invoices and logins from multiple places. Over the years we've tried numerous registrars.  IMHO, avoid enom.  NetEarthOne, otoh, has...

KVM anti abuse how do you counter abuse with kvm users?

What sort of abuse? If you can define it, then you can measure it.  If you can measure it, you can automate a response to it.

    Employee owned business?

Oi - I couldn't disagree more with the first sentiment, and yet I wholly agree with the second. A cooperative business does not mean all people can (or should) do all things.  It means all people have a vested interest in seeing the entire organization succeed. Now I'm not saying I disagree...
