Meet Don, a Half Eaten Pie and a vpsBoard moderator. Ask him stuff.

I did used to dip when I worked out at the refineries (as an alternative to smoking.. which is a PITA in an oil processing facility >_>).  Ended up giving up that habit after taking a drink from the wrong soda can one day >_<

    Home security systems?

That's just making assumptions.  I live in Sportsman's Paradise - it's pretty much a given that everyone down here has at least one firearm.  Combine that with a state law that makes it legal to shoot (to kill) anyone breaking into your home, and shoot (to wound) someone on your property so long...

    [Split] MicoHosting Inquries

Well... there was copious amounts of liquor involved.  Fran keeps bz and I plastered so that we're friendlier >_>

    [Split] MicoHosting Inquries

You know, I've seen a lot of companies claim `fast(est) growing`... and yet I've never seen anyone else move 500 units in under 15 minutes.

    Goodbye Lavabit

Fixed that for ya.  Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of people publicly hauled off.  Speaking as someone who used to have partial access to a 'suspect' file repository.. yeah, the hauling off was only done to mask the people that simply vanished for good.

    Goodbye Lavabit

The difference being, there's more honesty there.  There's no "hide behind a smiling elected official" nonsense;  citizens are fully aware that they are constantly being watched, and there are no disillusions about the penalties for invoking govt. ire.  Ask any semi-knowledgable American about...

    Goodbye Lavabit

Only for people like us.  No matter how many security-conscious people you can round up, we still only represent a TINY fraction of actual net users.  So sure, we may end up with our own slightly-more-secure methods of communication.. at the cost of isolating ourselves from friends/family that...

    Goodbye Lavabit

    Ed Snowden.

Potentially :P Well, I did have an airboat until I moved back to the city.  Hah.. a recurring joke with some of my older friends down here is that the russki is more cajun than their own children >_>  I suppose I just acclimate well.

Meet Don, a Half Eaten Pie and a vpsBoard moderator. Ask him stuff.

Beef Stroganoff is the EN name for it.  One of those dishes you could make a hundred different ways. Horse meat... well, actually depends on the horse.  I don't know enough about cooking it to say which breeds are better tasting, but I've had it from dry and stringy (and kinda bland) to really...

Eh, dog tastes funny to me.  Now, some good строганов with horse meat hits the spot though.  Hard to pull off in Louisiana, though I've become quite fond of gatormeat >_>

To all my Muslim brothers and sisters

It always makes me laugh when Americans conveniently forget who originally put people like Laden and Hussain in power (yup, Saddam worked directly for the CIA for years helping overthrow Iraq with CIA's direct intent of placing him in as the new leader).

Opera - great but privacy sucks

I can't tell if Magiobiwan is serious, or simply incredibly naive.  Let's hope for his clients that the above post was just a joke... because that's one HELL of a scary position for a provider that has access to your data to have.

    Falling off the Grid

Flawlessly for me.  But it's worth noting that I don't touch Apple, and I don't know if there's an equiv to CardDAV/CalDAV for the iPhone.  Worth looking into, though - it's not proprietary, so there's bound to be other apps for it.

    Yikes.  Stereotyping much? >_>

Opera - great but privacy sucks

That's the self-hosted Firefox Sync (aka Weave) I was discussing in another thread.  Many browsers have this capability.. Firefox/Iceweasel is the only one I've found so far that lets you easily do it yourself without having to rely on their servers.

Always awkward when asking the mum about anal tics. >_>

Opera - great but privacy sucks

In the spirit of 'fighting the man' however.. wouldn't taking one of their tools (say.. Android) and ripping out what they actually wanted to put out there (GPS tracking/etc), leaving yourself with a fully functional device you have complete control of, courtesy of 'the enemy', actually be a...

    Falling off the Grid

Heh, I hardly ever use 'cloud' type deployments for actual filesharing/etc.  I originally tried Owncloud to see if it handled RSS (before finding TTRSS), and ended up keeping it after I found out about Contact/Calendar sync. You're already running Owncloud - so pretty much all you need is...

Opera - great but privacy sucks

Iceweasel is an 'alternative' in that Debian refuses to package out anything other than FOSS by default.  Given that Firefox is also Open Source (but not FOSS), I have no problems with using it.  I have full control over the browser, I can check and compile source myself if I'm worried about...
