    FraudRecord outage

It's been a multitude of problems today. Harzem was working on it earlier and I was mitigating a unique attack that kept bringing the VPS offline. Hang tight. :)

WebHostingTalk Worst of the Hosting Industry

If you get drunk at a convention (even ones without any educational panels) you will be removed. If you get drunk off half a beer then don't drink before class if you want to learn anything. If a stranger pressures you into doing something you don't want to do tell an adult.

WebHostingTalk Worst of the Hosting Industry

So being drunk is mandatory at HostingCon? Why do you assume only children are attending? Your self proclaimed weak will power should have no bearing on how others live their lives.

Also, the majority of people that go to these kinds of IT conventions/conferences do not pay out of pocket.

100% of professional conventions/conferences I have been to have alcohol during the networking portion. When you're old enough you are going to look back on your threads and laugh at how silly you look. It's OK though, we all do silly things when we're young and naive.

A pain in my NAS. :(

Synology's software is basically a really stripped down linux OS and they try to prevent root access to prevent people from breaking things like I did. And yes, CLI will definitely break something if you overwrite the system software with hacked together community software. ;)

Where exactly did Jonny come from?

Why can't we have one thread in the Off Topic section and be done with this? I don't care if you guys want to talk about the love of your life every second of the day but do we need new TMZ-style threads multiple times a week? The answer is no. I vote that once XYZ provider/person generates X...

A pain in my NAS. :(

The bug occurred because I like to tinker with the command line. Had I stuck to the GUI as recommended I wouldn't have had an issue I'm sure (especially with me installing community software to replace the system's own software). Luckily the latest update fixed my mistake for me by rebuilding...

A pain in my NAS. :(

It's already shipped so I'll still stick with my original plan of migrating all of my data over to my new one and I'll colocate my old one.

A pain in my NAS. :(

Bah! Here I go thinking my NAS is being overloaded only to find it was a bug in the update last month and they fixed it in this morning's release. :(

Keep Track of Your Services! (Lightweight PHP script)

I saw your pull request and I'll look it over tonight and test it out on my test setup. Thanks for all of your effort and feedback! :) - Really, use prepared statements. It's a good practice to follow everywhere. I will make an effort to learn this in the future, the code I spend the majority...

    Cloud VPS is really cloud?

"The cloud" is a marketing term. Don't try to label your services as a cloud just for the sake of labeling, define what your cloud is. Anybody in IT or who has a remote clue about infrastructure will see the word "cloud" and will require some cold hard facts about that service regardless what...

NALSec - DDoS Protection based on OVH DDoS Protection: TLDR - OVH DDoS Protection based rip-off

From what I can tell his goal is to be a CloudFlare alternative without the infrastructure, features, or his own assets. It's going to be really hard if he's relying on OVH to be the next CloudFlare without them directly involved or even knowing about it.

End User - What vps control panel would you prefer, how important it to you ?

I'd prefer a VPS with a custom control panel over a VPS with SolusVM, if it's not custom then it doesn't matter to me what control panel they are running.

A pain in my NAS. :(

@MartinD all of my important data is replicated to 3 different locations (1 local, 2 remote) in real time and all of my files that don't change (media, ISOs, archives, etc...) are backed up each day to a local disk and a remote VPS. Once I have the BC115j then I'll be able to setup the DS110j as...

A pain in my NAS. :(

My Synology NAS (DS110j) started e-mailing me about SMART errors in my single 1TB drive the other day and so I hooked up a USB drive to it and started backing up all of my data. Once all of my data was safe I ignored it and figured I'd wait for the drive to die before ordering a new one...

What is your preferred web server?

Lighttpd is still my favorite although the development activity isn't the best, I'm still using it whenever I need to build a webserver from scratch (otherwise I go with nginx + Apache2).

Is it worth having multiple SSD?

Is this server going to be hosting any clients? If so then you NEED some sort of RAID redundancy just to protect your clients (backups are nice, but any amount of downtime from a single hard drive failure is unacceptable in 2015). If you can't afford at least 2 SSD drives for RAID1, then you...
