    Mandrill - Anyone using it?

Amazon Simple Email Service is nice because of their flat send pricing ($.10/1,000 messages period), but Mandrill's tiered pricing structure does end up being cheaper if you send 24,000 or fewer messages per month. You also do pay for data transfer out with SES after the first 1GB/month but...

    Bitcoins -- sustaining the homeless

FTA: "You also need power, but that’s not that hard to come by. When Angle and his pals run out of juice for their phones, they walk from Martin Luther King Plaza to the local Pensacola library, where they can plug into outdoor outlets on the side of the wall." Public libraries have outlets for...

    Adminer

Adminer is pretty awesome. It's not as full-featured as phpMyAdmin and the UI isn't quite as slick but considering "installation" is literally just dropping a single php file in it's hard to really complain. Plus you don't have to worry about securing the installation with temporary symlinks or...

    ColoCrossing and vpsBoard

Back when most people came over here from LET, I was pretty excited. I thought this would be a place to escape the negativity and bashing that had taken over LET... and at first it was. But now? Now there's more drama and more negativity here than on LET. So I think vpsBoard as an organization...

Miley Cyrus debate - should she be censored?

The actual video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My2FRPA3Gf8 It's just yet another dumb sexy video -- no better or worse than a lot of other pop music out there. I do think she pulls off the punk look pretty well, though, personally. It's kind of nice that she's not trying to look like Barbie.

Did you know a 3rd world trade center tower fell on 9/11?

7 WTC was burning, uncontrolled, for literally seven hours before collapsing. The debris damaged the building, yes, but more important it caught it on fire, and that's what ultimately led to the collapse. Many of the other buildings were seriously damaged by debris, but they did not catch on...

iPhone 5s is the best iphone since the last iphone

Come on, people, at least do some research before starting with the conspiracy theories. Apple specifically talked about how fingerprints are encrypted and only stored locally on a special storage partition in the phone's processor. They're not uploaded to iCloud, and they won't even be backed...

Did you know a 3rd world trade center tower fell on 9/11?

There was no third tower. 7 WTC was one of the many "regular" buildings in the complex. That aside, it doesn't get much attention because nobody was in the building when it collapsed -- everyone had been evacuated much earlier and so there wasn't a single casualty. Anyways, the reason for the...

    SSL Speed Up?

Are you talking about the speed difference between HTTP and HTTPS? HTTPS will always be a good deal slower -- generally about 5x -- because a few (four) things have to happen before regular data can be transferred. Here's a cool diagram that shows what's going on...

    FrontRangeHosting Review

I had a good experience with FRH when I had their 128mb plan. I also don't know of any other provider that gives access to 4 cores with a plan that small.

How to make sure I don't return to your website...

That survey part is Google Consumer Surveys, which I don't really mind -- it's a way for site owners to monetize without using display ads, and it's two clicks (two questions) at the most, which is a lot faster than those annoying timed interstitial ads. Mandatory sharing or registration...

List of reliable sub 20$ per year providers

I think this list is great -- but I wouldn't include providers that haven't even been around for a year yet. It seems premature to say that a provider who's only been around for a few months is a reliable choice for an annual service.

    IP Board vs XenForo?

You can try it yourself here: http://xenforo.com/demo/ I'd say there is an initial learning curve, like any full-featured software will have, but I was able to figure it all out without looking at any documentation. One of the best things about XenForo is that it has what's possibly the best...

    IP Board vs XenForo?

XenForo is the best forum software out there right now, IMO. It doesn't have the same everything+the kitchen sink feature list of VB or IPB -- yet -- since it's newer, but I think the lack of bloat is a plus and since it was built new from the ground up it has a much more modern and clean feel.

It's not quite as simple as a yes or no for me. Would I wear Glass? Yes. Would I wear Glass all of the time? No way.

Looking for Xen based Linux VPS

If you're looking for a super low-end dedicated server there are much better deals here, FYI, from a provider people around here tend to like: https://www.wholesaleinternet.net/dedicated/ If you're looking for something a bit less low-end, check out QPS.
