    Nodewatch Settings

We ran it across several servers over the course of a few months. Even hooked it into the web panel thing that was provided. Every node would randomly stop reporting and nodewatch wouldn't die without a kill -9 and would be sitting at 100% of a core Even with stock configuration. Don't know...

Little Happy Cloud - new service from LES

Explain how the shit this is a cloud service? Is is high availability across multiple devices and or datacentres? To me it just looks like another KVM host with the word "Cloud" tacked on to generate sales. There is nothing "Cloud" about it.

    Anti Spam Protection

I commented on nodewatch elsewhere. I just wrote my own script to monitor conntrack and alert me if something goes too high. I'd much rather manually intervene. Nodewatch was generating far too many false positives with liberal settings and / or would just take a shit and crash.

Do you use a VPN for your normal internet browsing?

I only use a VPN to circumvent region blocks like Pandora.. And also stupid UK high court decisions to block sites at an ISP level. Fuckers.

    History of 4.2.2.2

A redirect that is RFC violating. That's what lost my vote for OpenDNS. If a domain doesn't exist I want NXDOMAIN to be returned damnit!

    Host Node - IPtables config

Drop everything and only pinhole what you need. Perhaps considering restricting SSH to a couple of known trusted IPs Forward chain you need to allow between your vnet interfaces and your eth interface.. I think. Here are a couple of iptables resources which should cover the basics...

    SSH Protection

Kinda useless without a drop rule too, unless your iptables has the INPUT chain drop by default. In anycase hosts.deny works just as well although if you want it to silently drop I'd use iptables, I think hosts.deny returns some sort of ICMP rejection, giving a hint something is listening on...

What is your preferred web server?

Nginx here. Although Apache's 2.4 branch is a real contender now. I used to be a lighty fan, but IPv6 support is shit and fucks up your configs when trying to do IP restrictions.

    Cloud VPS is really cloud?

Clouds are a stupid place to put computers... They rain and shit!

    Backup solutions

Bacula if you have the patience. If not, rsnapshot works ok, can get a little slow with lots of files as it hardlinks a shit tonne.

    KernelCare

It's nice, but as Martin says the patches can be a little slow. Is it worth the cost? Probably, but it also depends how much time you have to set up and carry out maintenance windows? For small numbers of nodes, I wouldn't bother so much. But as you grow larger, rolling reboots of lots of...

What is your favourite RAID level?

RAIDZ1 (At least at home) For boxes with actual RAID though I tend to go RAID10

Is it worth having multiple SSD?

How are you a verified provider and still not know that no matter what the RAID level you use you should always back up important data ANYWAY. Drives have this horrible habit of failing in groups, especially if they're from the same batch.

32 or 64bit system? Which one to use?

I just use x64 out of habit now. Stopped caring about the guidance on when to use x86 vs x64. It's kinda pointless.

    Nodewatch Settings

I kicked nodewatch to the kerb and wrote my own scripts. I found nodewatch would continually crash and then sit at 100% CPU for a php process. Screw that.

    WHMCS 6.01 is released

I'm still reluctant to update. How breaky is it coming off of the 5.x branch?

Who was your first VPS provider?

IPXCore were the first people I ever purchased a VPS from I had a shell account with frenzy.biz before that. Not sure if they're still in business.

    OpenVZ IPv6 subnets ?

You need to have an address within the subnet to route through as far as I'm aware. The way I've done it for KVM is to add the "subnet gateway" address to the bridge on the HN. Not sure if that helps.

VirtKick, the Open Source Panel goes Commercial!

Simple answer is no. 2 reasons. Sod 15% of revenue and second I wouldn't want all my eggs in one basket.
