Very awesome website @Munzy. I see you removed our Georgia location, you can just rename it North Carolina since the test IPs are the same (and they're mostly online now also). :)

I have one in the Netherlands with @ramnode. Do you have suggestions on other locations?
Are you sure? I see RamNode NL in the ping targets but not in the sources - those all seem US-based, unless I'm misreading.

Other than that, OVH would probably be a good place to ping from - their international routing is rather good.

How about --> http://looking-glass.telia.net/ and http://www.cogentco.com/network/looking-glass lots of European and global locations although not a VPS provider they're still useful

Provider: Edis worldwide looking glasses http://www.edis.at/de/server/looking-glass/info/
Either I am inept, or I don't see any IPs to easily ping to from those links. *help*

Ooooppppsss... I saw on your twitter that you were moving locations, I got all CC'd up and assumed you were consolidating to buffalo... :p

I moved the files around so you should have your old data from Atlanta so you can compare new pings if you like, I reloaded most of the servers so they should begin adding new data as of this post.

Location RTM is "RTM = Rotterdam, Netherlands with Ramnode" I tried to think a little ahead ^_^

I'll see if I can find a good yearly at OVH :)

Aha. Ramnode NL isn't in Rotterdam though, rather in Alblasserdam, with Dataplace :)

You are very much correct, I tried to base my locations off airport codes to make it cleaner. However there is no airport near there so I chose the closest.

Yeah, that unfortunately doesn't work as well in NL as it does in many other countries. We only have a few (public and actually used) airports (due to the small size of the country), but lots of cities inbetween.

Hm, not in particular. I'll probably be setting up a proper OpenVZ environment on one of my Kimsufi's at some point in the future (for personal stuff, not a VPS business), I might be able to give you a VM on there then :) No idea when that'll be, though, very busy with my CDN right now.

I'd love to hear about your CDN, PM me if you want to go all techy on me :D

It's not that extensive, I'll just briefly hijack your thread with the technical details :)

Basically I'm rolling my own CDN (geoDNS-based, not anycast, as that is far too expensive to do right), using Tahoe-LAFS as storage backend. My usual storage grid, multiple frontend servers with 500GB on-disk cache each, custom daemon written in Node.js for serving the actual content. Some query parameter magicks to send certain custom headers (eg. noindex) without having to keep that configuration on the grid. Did some initial tests with a naive frontend implementation, and it can hit about 2.4gbps on a single core, when serving from on-disk cache.

Initially going to use it for PDFy, but planning to roll it out as a publicly usable service in the near future - completely free of charge, and only available for non-commercial projects :) Similarly, planning on some other services in the same vein, with the same model. It's been in the planning for a while, but I've only recently gotten around to it... and Node.js as a platform is actually making it feasible (vs. the nightmare of async framework incompatibility and poor documentation that I encountered in Python).

Awesome, I am really curious how you are using Tahoe-LAFS as the backend storage. Been looking for a large storage engine for WAN environments, but haven't found anything useful for myself, or that I understand properly.

On a side note, if you notice some downtime on pings right now... Yep, I know..... Load is currently 23 after I added in edis and it is having a hard time restarting the processes. My guess is it is creating all the files needed and just being pissy about it.

So... It seems there is a possibility of the max number of targets smokeping can handle before just failing to work....

I have ~100 target hosts with 7 proxy nodes so around 700 items in total which seems to be what other people are linking to for the max of there setups. <.< I even built the edis config :(
