Received $5 from DO for cancelling all my droplets

Like the title says, a little while ago I cancelled my last droplet at DO. I still like the service very much, but I'm trying to slim down my collection and now that I'm no longer at school (the one with the terrible Internet) the VPN VPS I was running with them was no longer needed. But now, several weeks after cancelling, I got an e-mail (automated of course) from the CEO, with a "come-back" incentive in the form of $5 credit. So, if you need some DO credit, cancel all your VPSes!

DigitalOcean gets it.

The hosting industry does little to nothing for customer retention and that's what this is.  Creating leads from former customers should be done.  For most customers, the $5 credit is a whole free month of usage.

I got this swell back a few months ago after cancelling my last droplet.

I do have to give it to DO, they do seem to have their head screwed on and I have yet to have a bad experience with them, great for spinning up a server for just when you need it.

Little bit weird that they give you credits like it's nothing. People probably just use them and then delete droplet before they are billed again! :)

Well when you consider it isn't actually costing them $5 and I'm sure a lot of people don't use it you can see why they can do that.

The goal of course is for people to forget to cancel before they are billed.  Pretty sure even if you are a day late in canceling that DO will not be offering any refunds.....

Refunds for forgotten cancellation are irrelevant - if you're just "a day late in cancelling", you'll only be charged 16 cents. They want you to forget you have one running at all.
