The issue with merging them all is that they all developed differently some at the same time. If we merge them then it'll become one giant (pardon my french) clusterfuck and it'd be an even bigger mess.

Why not dedicated a sub-forum to them? As much as we all love that vpsBoard has become the defacto CC discussion board, I feel that dedicating a sub-forum to them (that can be ignored/hidden) instead of dedicating the whole forum to them would be a better solution than merging the threads into one (which I am also all for).

I propose a "Laundry Room" category.

Does IPB allow you to 'filter' or 'block' a section? It'd be a lot easier for people that simply don't care to read them.

Not going to merge them, but may create a section for other industry news. I can even make it -not- appear in the 'View New Content' list, though seems like a pretty quick way to kill a subject/thread by forcing it into an area with no update notifications or notifications that a thread is even there unless you browse directly to it. (Because it won't show in the sidebar either, if it doesn't show in the 'View New Content' page....)

We'll see. For now, turn your eyes towards other threads if you stumble across one you don't wish to see.

New drinking game.  Every time CC is mentioned, take a shot.  Every time they're mentioned in a positive light.. two shots.  Negative light - four shots.

When Fabozzi shows up, we chug till the bottle's empty.
My liver hurts already.

Second the sub-forum.  Then I can sink it on my New Content list.

I've always suggested a "Rants and Raves" sub-forum for The Pub, maybe an Industry Scandals/Shame/Dishonor/FrownyFace sub-forum for the Industry News?

I would LOVE if this forum wouldn't show up on the "View New Content" but I'll settle for an opt-out option since I am willing to compromise where others cannot (this site loads MUCH MUCH slower now that SSL is being forced so I normally only browse from work or on my cell phone, yay for paranoia and the inability to explore other options).

Do you mind starting a new thread and seeing if this is an issue for anyone else? I don't notice any difference, nor has anyone really reported anything. When we switched to Nginx I believe Fran said he can browse the site on his mobile again, because the SSL prevented that before on his Android device. But it worked for me and others. Seems like a lot of random isolated issues with people's ISPs :(

Kindly requesting the addition of the Laundry Room / Provider Dirt Sheet /  related name to quarantine all the less savory content.  Not just on CC but for ALL the content on all providers.

Ping Mann in PM with your upstream provider.   SSL has been well behaved and site seems faster than ever, from  here and other testing spots.   But, always want to hear about what is broken/slow/unacceptable.

Maybe PHP is acting up?

And yes, I'm not sure if it was lighttpd causing an issue or possibly rewrite rules looping. I found that my mobile provider has 2 APN's; 1 that is for 'PDAs' that will push a web proxy, and the other that is straight HSPA+. When I jumped on the HSPA+ one I was able to access the site again, yet the PDA one didn't work.

Once the site swapped to NGINX (and I'm assuming a simpler configuration) I was able to access the site again without issue on the 'pda' APN.

The more I think about it, the more it seems possible to make minor adjustments to the global_conf.php to detect if it's SSL or not and adjust the URL's from there. From what Manndude was saying in the big "MOVE TO SSL DAMMIT" thread, there was hard coded schema's (http:// or https://). You should be able to simply do <a href="//vpsboard.com">....</a> and your browser will automatically handle the schema (with assistance from global_conf.php).

suggestion to change the forum name to UGVPS to reduce the confusion of google searchers who click on a ugvps.com search result link and find themselves at a forum named VPSBoard.
If Crystal would setup a CNAME it'd be a lot easier to redirect :p I'm not sure if it's how 301 forwards always work or if it's just godaddy, but from what Curtis was saying, he couldn't get a 'referer' based redirect to work worth a damn.

Hahaha!

A search just now of Google for UGVPS, yields in the first place:

UGVPS - Tags - Forums - vpsBoard

https://vpsboard.com/tags/forums/UGVPS/

Search Results. There were 2 results tagged with UGVPS ... UGVPS = Thomas Dale = Crystal Dale = ChicagoVPS. in The Pub (Off topic discussion) Started by ...

So, going to start a new forum for these type of things. "The Water Cooler (Industry Related Gossip)" but wasn't for sure if I should make a dedicated forum for it, or add it as a sub-forum to an existing forum such as "General Talk" (In the VPS section), "The Pub" (in the The Lounge), or just give it it's own 'The Lounge' forum. Either way, the purpose will be to not clutter existing areas, be 'un-followable' to those who don't wish to see these threads or their updates in the 'View New Content' feature and to compromise with those who left the site because they didn't like reading the drama-ish threads. This should make it easier to follow the threads for those who wish to read them, easier to index/categorize the threads for future reference, and be easier to not follow the threads, if that's what you wish to do. At the end of the day we can all be happy and not be bitter. :)

Thoughts?
