The future of web design

There is no question that most web designers are currently chargin more for administration and management than web design alone. Wuld you guys say that you are no longer profiting from web design, even when it's reponsive, it seems that the value has dropped significantly.

What are your thoughts?

Web dev certainly has plummeted. 

However, in the past there really wasn't much affordable out there.  Now there is a good bit of affordable web design ($50-$400).   The expensive stuff still exists though, but I suspect with less business.

I never found the niche to be profitable.   Unless you were attracting big corporations or developing actual applications.

Pretty amazing what things like Bootstrap are doing and how widely used such is.

As for designers making more from admin and other work, perhaps.  But even that could be reduced with say managed hosting.

I believe web designing is no longer a thing that you need to be a specialist in to make a working website - a lot of it can be self taught today so many people take up on that option or use a template. However if you want the best web designers is what you want!

Its very hard for an American designer to compete with the prices of a Eastern European or Asian designer. Especially when it comes to people looking for there designer online. Now when it comes to local clientele they definitely have the upper hand.

Mobile Apps is the new web design

Where development and web design fuse.

Designs alone were never profitable.

The trend seems to be to move to a total-marketing solution (online ad buys, brand reputation, seo optimizations, even blog posting weekly) to combine with web design and rachet up the monthly expense and only focus on clients who can spend on that.    There are less and less successful players in the just design and host market it would seem.

I paid what I would consider a fair and livable wage to a web designer who is either based in the US or the UK, I forget which. People that can afford and genuinely care about the end result are still out there and willing to hire talented individuals.

The web designing market is really competitive and if you do good research properly, you will find good designers at very economical price. Yes, the price has gone high but remember, quality comes for a price. But as I said, you need to do good research and look up for reviews and feedback before ordering a website design or any web development project from any designing company or a freelancer.
