    LET Down?

Maybe so, but it wouldn't take more then a few minutes to right a script that proxies between the sites. Mainly just lazy I assume and they didn't do it.

    LET Down?

Many providers here run there portal on separate networks to make sure this doesn't happen. They also add DDOS protection and other things to help keep support sites up, and for there good customers they have other non-take down methods of communication. I.e. twitter, facebook, etc.  Not...

    Backplane killing drives?

You clearly don't understand. You are trying to run a consumer grade hard drive in a large chassis with lots of other drives in a very tough RAID setup. You clearly show that you have little to no understanding of what you are doing. TLER is vital for your setup and is most likely the cause of...

    Backplane killing drives?

http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/996/~/support-for-wd-desktop-drives-in-a-raid-0-or-raid-1-configuration You used a setup that isn't acceptable as per WD. It is your own fault for running said setup with raid6. Red drives are not designed for those type of loads.

Why are you testing on production?

It depends, sometimes for small personal or quick things i just do it. I know how to revert, for larger things, I generally test.  However, I generally do apt-get update on my stuff anyways, and if there is issues, I look into them.

    Backplane killing drives?

From my understanding and general deployments, RAID 5/6 is very tough on hard drives. Yes, it has better chance for surviving a drive failure then Raid10, but it is more complicated and thus harder.  This is also why most normal drives including RED drives aren't suggested to be used with RAID...

I am sorry, but you have no idea what you are talking about.

    Backplane killing drives?

The problem may more over be the fact you are using RAID 6. Raid 5/6 is very very damaging on hard drives.
