What did you buy for Black Friday?

$17.48 on Steam, it would have been more but I had to renew my CrashPlan+ service this week so I missed out on some games I wanted yesterday. :(

What did you buy for Black Friday?

I woke up at midnight, got dressed, then spent the night coding our SolusVM replacement. Hope to have clients testing it by the end of the weekend. :) I'm a giver not a spender.

    SolusVM vs Feathur

Nevermind. It looks like my pricing is different than the pricing for new clients. New pricing is $10 per slave, $2.50 for the master as @INIZ pointed out above. You can no longer purchase a slave license for $2.50 and even in the past the $2.50 license had a limit of 2 VPSs per license.

It's $2.50 for the master and $10 per slave. ;)

    SSL for VPSB?

While I appreciate you feeling sorry for me, I don't see why SSL should be forced when it's extremely simple to offer both non-SSL and SSL on the same webserver. Heck, I'll even settle for having to use another domain name or subdomain if that's a good compromise for everyone. I enjoy vpsBoard a...

    SSL for VPSB?

    I hate repeating myself. :(

    SSL for VPSB?

I think it already loads slow enough, no need to cripple the site for me. If SSL is required then I guess I can always RSS the site but that's not an ideal solution.

    Inertia Networks "mini" VPS

The network tests should be similar to these: # wget http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test --2013-11-26 08:13:03-- http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test Resolving cachefly.cachefly.net... 205.234.175.175 Connecting to cachefly.cachefly.net|205.234.175.175|:80... connected. HTTP request...

LG Televisions caught sending your network share file information back to the LG mothership

Smart TVs are too smart. I don't have cable so I can care less if my TV knows what Netflix, Amazon, Google, and Comcast already know.

    SSL for VPSB?

    Lighttpd is even easier: $SERVER["socket"] == ":443" { ssl.engine = "enable" ssl.pemfile = "/etc/lighttpd/ssl/website.com.pem" ssl.ca-file = "/etc/lighttpd/ssl/SSLCA.crt" } So only port 443 (HTTPS) will have SSL and port 80 stays...

    SSL for VPSB?

Why not use a VPN or proxy? I have no problem with an SSL option as long as it's not forced because it's so much slower for me than non-SSL (Comcast throttles any traffic that is encrypted regardless of the port, my VPN speed is less than 4Mbps compared to my non-VPN speed of 20Mbps).

    Targeted Internet Traffic Misdirection

This happened to us earlier this year. The problem is with upstream providers (i.e. Level3, Cogent, HE, etc...) that don't confirm ownership of IPs and even worse some allow clients to announce IPs without any human intervention. Announcing only /24s is the best method to prevent it but not 100%...

    Home-grade 4+ bay NAS?

Welcome to the Synology family! :) I've been wanting to get another NAS and colo it because there are some awesome clustering features Synology added so you can have geographical redundancy.

Ninjahawk, mind telling us all what is up?

@kaniini Oh, my graphs for Dacentec look a lot different with over 99.9% uptime for 2 months and 100% uptime the two other months.

    Home-grade 4+ bay NAS?

6 watts is with the "hibernate" feature, I did a search on Google for "Synology DS413j watts" and the first 3 or 4 results all stated 31.56 under normal usage with "under 7" with the "hibernate" state. Assuming you set it to spin the drives down and don't have it loaded up with apps like I do...

Ninjahawk, mind telling us all what is up?

What's wrong Dacentec? I find >99% uptime acceptable for the prices they charge, not as good as CommercialMedia's uptime but still pretty good in the 4 months I've used them.

    Home-grade 4+ bay NAS?

A Synology NAS is like a small server, it can run pretty much anything on it. Aside from using it as a storage device, I also run a VPN server, web server, mail server, FTP server, Photo Gallery (PHP based), video surveillance, music server (streams to my phone), media player (I can watch movies...

    Home-grade 4+ bay NAS?

Synology gets my vote. Can't beat their CloudStation (I have it sync up between my laptop and a Windows VPS, the Windows VPS runs CrashPlan so it's versioned also, I also have a cronjob nightly for my important directories to rsync to another VPS).

    lightweight browsers?

I use midori on any linux OS I use (including on my Raspberry Pi) but I recommend iceweasel for clients when they want to install a desktop on their VPS, it'll run on 96MB of RAM but I never bothered checking the actual usage before.
