    IP Camera Security

I'm running (4x) 720p IP cameras around my house right now, though the Zmodo DVR software is pretty poor in my opinion. Motion detection works, but I've come to find that it doesn't always detect motion if say... someone is walking through the backyard slowly or if a car is driving by in the...

How To: Determining how many 'VPS neighbors' you have or if you are on an oversold OpenVZ node

Ah, looks like they're going to treat this as a bug instead of a feature: https://bugzilla.openvz.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3234

Verizon is buying AOL for $4.4 billion

This. I have fiber internet at home, but not even ten miles away outside of town it's pretty rural. You may have to drive through creeks to get to people's houses (assuming the water is low enough to pass) and travel poorly maintained gravel roads. A buddy of mine lives out in the sticks, and...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

The Solar Pi lives! http://imgur.com/a/3Y14g Images are large so didn't embed them in here. It's pretty ghetto but it works. Not as efficient as a setup as it could be, but it works. Will monitor usage over the course of the next few days and see how practical it is.

    DDOS service for Providers

Good write up @Francisco, thanks for the contribution, that should help @jclutter out quite a bit. From my experience as a customer, it appears that both CNServers and maybe (don't recall 100%) Staminus too had some false positives in blocking. I do recall ticketing in a couple times as members...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

They're located where they're located at for several reasons. I was originally going to place them out in the yard, however would have to: A.) Build a mount B.) Buy more cable or make one and splice Renogy's proprietary ends with the extended cable C.) Worry about theft I know the setup is...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Charge controller being used is the same as what came with the kit. It'll work for now however I'll eventually want to replace it with something better as I want one that will visually display more information about what is going on. I feel like some also have phone apps or a local web interface...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Got around to getting this setup today: (1x) 100 watt panel (Soon to add 2 more 20watt panels) (4x) 6v / 75amp batteries (soon to be 6x) Batteries still had a charge from their use in a golfcart last year. Will charge for a couple days then add the inverter. Batteries aren't new...

    Crunchbang Linux is Back!

AWESOME I loved CrunchBang, was running it on my workstation desktop for a few years I think. Was a great distro I though, and saddened when it went bye bye. I've since re-installed my workstation, but my laptop needs a reload soon to prepare it for some travel so looks like I may return to...

    How cheap can they go?

That price point will only be achievable if they're able to raise enough funding to purchase all the required components in bulk. Prices of things are reduced greatly when you buy them by the pallet.

How To: Determining how many 'VPS neighbors' you have or if you are on an oversold OpenVZ node

:o Well the LES stuff consists of micro containers, right? Still, lot of eggs in one basket :)

How To: Determining how many 'VPS neighbors' you have or if you are on an oversold OpenVZ node

What is the provider? Age of container? Size of container? Completely possible if it's a new order, on a new node or a large VM on a small node.

How To: Determining how many 'VPS neighbors' you have or if you are on an oversold OpenVZ node

First things first, let's give credit where credit is due. I wanted this to have more visible coverage and originally stumbled upon this information in which references this site. Because part of the discussion references how to determine the number of containers on the host node when logged...
