The "canceled" status might be a timeout problem. Can you check the free memory? And how much the php process is eating? Maybe owncloud is hitting the RAM limit in php.ini?

Look at their POP list, they are all around the world. So everyone would benefit from it - as long as you have a vps in each area too.
