    The cesspit / chat thread.

Yeah Atom might work for that ;)  Considering it's buyer beware, no warranty hobby offering. The Avotons aren't bad...   Just weirdo price on them to go buy new and all.  Part of the problem with placing them in the market. Me, I am hoping to see more of them as very low price dedis.  Dedis...

Sounds like you need a beer wench.  All that exercise keeps them trim and fit.

    The cesspit / chat thread.

Hey lots of people were early on lusting at the Avoton.  I haven't seen much traction with them / interest except those mega cheap weird dedis... Avoton better than L5420??  Unsure about that....  The Avoton is lower power. L5420's are quite typically dual CPU setups and CPU MARK puts that...

What is better: Renting or owning your hardware?

The potential for losses are great, regardless of the own/rent/lease arrangement.    One bad power incident and you have fried gear.  Electric doesn't care who owns it ;) Picking the wrong DC is a big issue and one we see a lot.   Indeed that can be a really costly fubar.  Most people don't...

    The cesspit / chat thread.

All I can say is this isn't the last you are going to see of nasty providers sliding/masking/hiding Atoms. When LEB rubberstamped that shit offer, it opened the gates to every jack ass with a hair brainbrained idea to take said crap machine and call it a VPS node. Somewhere in America, right...

    The cesspit / chat thread.

LET is like most of the industry - in a downward spiral.  Quality spiraling down, sustainability of many companies in question, ROI not adequate to make a long term career around such, etc. With LET's move to promote W1V_Lee to a moderator (after his extended period of professional ass kissery...

Mann has taken to wrapping food in lettuce :) Hehehe :)  That's a win! Subway = those folks were popped for a plasticizer in their bread last year.  Need I say more. McDonalds = worst company to choose from for "food".  Long ago they lost their way, went cheap, went into horrible fillers, etc...

What is better: Renting or owning your hardware?

Depends though StevenF :) Talking about single server to few server commits?  Then getting prices that are crazy for colo and such.  Much downside to such "no commits" like usually the folks have no control over the space they are in - shared with others... Switching in rack is whatever it...

What is better: Renting or owning your hardware?

I liked this reply :) Anyone that has been in the market / prior relative experience though should be looking to buy up front.   Even if you go older hardware, I say fine.    dd speed tests and CPU benchmarks, blah, I do and have bought recently from folks offering services on 54xx's.  Cost of...

    Introducing the vpsBoard Library!

I like The Library.   Lots of good reference material that I either forgot about (and ended up buried in the site) or that I somehow missed. I am a big fan of similar curated collections of good materials / highly focused topics. Keep up the good work!

What is better: Renting or owning your hardware?

It's best to have lending for business. That means owning your gear in XX months. In order to do this you need either personal wealth or a business that is turning over healthy sales. Or you can be a scum bag and spend your VC money...

Vultr - What hardware exactly are they running on their SSD nodes?

Yeah I just borrowed an account and hit all their locations. The masked strange Core 2 Duo looking stuff is NY 1 and NY 2.   All other locations are straight up E5's no BS masking. Maybe someone can push them to unmask those locations :)

Vultr - What hardware exactly are they running on their SSD nodes?

Oh really, did DigitalOcean :) ?   I had to go check and I am not liking what I see in DigitalOcean land either... cat /proc/cpuinfo Family 6, Model 2, Stepping 3...  What the heck CPU is that?!?!?!  I can't identify it. So off to see CPUID.... That processor serial # isn't real happy...

Average or adequate pay for (remote/work from home) L1 staff?

Real companies pay real money. That said, someone touching customers directly and juggling the company balls yeah, shouldn't be peanuts pay.  Full time gig?   2k hours a year = $30k, perhaps a bit more.

Looking for a VPS in Missouri or Illinois

    Not much in Kansas City, oddly.  Even OpenVZ is barely there... Way less providers than should be. Chicago is the market likely. Ready2Frag: https://billing.ready2frag.com/cart.php?gid=9 1024MB RAM / 2 CPU Cores @ 3.30GHz / 15GB SSD Storage / 1Gbps / 2TB BW / 1 IPv4 / 16 IPv6  -  $10.20 /...

Vultr - What hardware exactly are they running on their SSD nodes?

There we are with Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 1 again... Someone find me something that matches that :)  I didn't find anything that did yesterday. The Family and Model part match i5, i7 and E3...  The Stepping of 1 doesn't exist though. @willie  can you install cpuid and run that for me to...

    Increase traffic?

I've refrained from commenting :) Everyone and their mother wants traffic, because ill perception is that traffic equates to sales.  It's a page greatly borrowed from the spam world.  Traffic helps, but at what cost.  Cost of bought traffic many do one way or another, cost of people seeing your...

Vultr - What hardware exactly are they running on their SSD nodes?

CPU ID info is normally just fine and clear....  This seems like someone has gone out of the their way to do something out of ordinary.   Unsure if it works for me, as I am not a customer ;) I'd ask in pre-sales but: https://discuss.vultr.com/discussion/479/raid...
