(Newb question!) How to divide a dedicated server into VPSes?

So true @AThomasHowe,  very much marketing gimmicks instead of anything remotely in the big picture cloud-like.  I am hoping we see a bridge built.   Historically we have  Xen, vmWare, KVM, OpenVZ, etc. which are server virtualization - bare mental - one server, multiple containers doing...

Do you tell a customer your server specs if he asks?

Welcome to vpsBoard @NullMind. The inside blended mix creation has its place and semi valid.   But big picture, pretty darn rare. By the time you usually start talking SANs and exotic network configs you are looking at big interconnects, lots of interconnects and generally other disk storage...

(Newb question!) How to divide a dedicated server into VPSes?

I'm on the fence about both DO and Vultr.  Neither is particularly bad.  Performance with both can be rather spotty, random. Vultr's network speeds in my US testing has been underwhelming.   DO has good nodes, bad nodes, good days, bad days. The variability of resources realized with DO and...

    DigitalOcean vs Vultr vs Mothership1?

I don't know.....  Mothership1 seems like they've self torpedo'd themselves... Anyone still with them? DO is alright for sandbox deploys and impulse testing.  Really is no frills.   I mean some features in there, but it's VPS + Panel.  Network has been good for me and peppy when testing.  Disk...

    DigitalOcean keeping busy

Expansion is lighting up new rackspace, not really hard... They have vulture capital money to burn - lots of it.   Pretty easy to launch new DCs and locations quarterly, skids accomplish such rollouts with allowance money per se. DO is stagnating sort of.  I expected more / new features by now...

    StyleXNetworks Going Out of Business

OnApp isn't cheap to go and do a proper spec'd installation.  So self pocketbook wounding at the door.  Large monthly payment and a day one bigger installation than a normal hosting company. SANs, yeah, gets complicated and like Fran said fast interconnects, again, not cheap and not the average...

Do you tell a customer your server specs if he asks?

Oh no! "Genuine Intel CPUs" I see that crap all the time from newbish hosts in mass. Is there some black market out there for counterfeit Intel CPUs?  Do we have hosts running non-genuine CPUs?  I know, folks are running big VPS servers on ARM servers  (well they will in the future). What I...

Robert Clarke DDoS'd Brings the Internet Down...

They really need to stop it with the silver spoons and get them pacifiers instead. But but you left Centarra off the burban brat pack.   Why no love :) ? Crate + Centarra there on IRC running the little circus field trip.  Unsure why they were dinging around GVH with ClamHost's screens...

BurstNet getting back into the game with SmartHost?

Hostwinds was racking up network bad behavior around the early part of the Burst customer take over / buyout / whatever cooking of the books when no one was looking did. I should probably officially add and park Hostwinds on my radar.  I hadn't because I expected all customers by then to run...

Do you tell a customer your server specs if he asks?

I am not a provider, I am a customer and a customer who at times consults with hosts on their communications. That said, there is ZERO reason to mask the details of your servers (CPU, CPU series, release, disk type, etc.). The only reason folks get naughty and uber strange about such, in my...

    New Forum Section for Hardware?

Seems like we have lots of topics for hardware already.  Just moving those threads over would be the ticket to not having an empty forum section.  This is 3 minutes of me,  looking in search for ahhh... hardware ....  and another search for Raspberry Pi.  Lots more in there just not tagged with...

Robert Clarke DDoS'd Brings the Internet Down...

:) There were screenshots thrown out from Clarke claiming to be a GVH hack....  Unsure of origin or how he got such [they were not GVH's].... they appear to be Clamhost's.   Clamhost has some protracted never ending dramarama with Centarra: see...

Send those to Kossen for the cluster enhancments over 'der.  Minecruft has to be first though.  Beginning to think thats a code word for half the folks in that community instead of a game.  Must be some deviant trouser relationship.

That's a good question.   Guess the Clarke kid needs more permaban or a proper ass whooping...  I think the later. Unsure why he has other hosts finance screencaps.  Strange shit-uation. Must document the shit headedness.  Especially when the little condom leak with legs goes poking my name in...
