Damn, Curtis G made Slashdot with his own swatting.. I wonder if the local PD swatted his parents to retrieve him? http://yro-beta.slashdot.org/story/14/05/12/2333207/canadian-teen-arrested-for-calling-in-30-swattings-bomb-threats

Full disk encryption on a KVM VPS?

Have you tested the disk speed / overhead on such gear where crypto volume running AES is happening?  Wonder how heavy this would be on a shared server environment....

I am completely surprised by this turn of events.

So good Mr. Jarland was one of the 60 swattings by this fellow and two co-conspirators. Sad man, very sad. Did you ever establish what his issue was or might have been to do such a horrible thing to you?

Any one know what Datacenter does sentris.com use in Seattle?

And I should note that Equinix is at the same location.  They did a DC build out of the parking garage there....

Will the Mothership Land in Buffalo (aka DC's eating their young)

All of these "brands" have entirely retarded names.  Nothing catchy about any of them, nothing relative either.   Enough of them are retarded spelling hipster plays. Big picture, I can't see anyone paying an invoice to any of these names 5 years out.  They will fail or come to their senses and...

Any one know what Datacenter does sentris.com use in Seattle?

Well, Sentris is in the Westin building. Owner / Datacenter = DigitalRealty: http://www.digitalrealty.com/us/home-us

Will the Mothership Land in Buffalo (aka DC's eating their young)

This cloud / VPS offer will directly compete with CentriLogic's own customers. Should be no surprise that ColoCrossing has been doing the same thing (selling VPS directly) for a few months.  Their prices aren't GVH giveaway competitive, but they are "affordable"...

I am completely surprised by this turn of events.

Shame, what a shame. I remember a few months back with another faction of hack-centric folks were having a dust up with CurtisG/Riot and involved some nasty texts/threats. I want to say some remote possibility it is a setup, but ... the Krebs thing, yeah, someone wasn't a fan of that fellow...

Full disk encryption on a KVM VPS?

Well, the obvious insecurity of an open encrypted volume exists regardless of what technology, platform, dedicated, virtual, etc. I can see a lot of cover your arse situations.  Numero uno is your provider asked to cut a copy of your disk volume for government.   Maybe someone can speak about...

Full disk encryption on a KVM VPS?

So how allegedly secure is encrypted LVM as say installed as option in Debian?   Anyone aware of any reviews of the encryption attack vectors, crypto analysis, etc.?   Has such truly been vetted or are we blindly believing in it like we did with SSL :) ?

Previously acquired DotVPS.co is merged into Virtora, Jack departs

Seems to be some drama with the EaseVPS vs. DotVPS and who DDoS'd who.   Was surprised to see this referenced on that other site just the other day.  Thought that stuff was put to bed last year (yeah there was DDoS action after Oktay took hold of DotVPS too). Now since I lived the history of...

It looks I need Your help guys

Hahah, da f*ck?  Slap BuyVM's design?  Meh,  it's straight forward and just works.  Wish I could say the same about all the CSS dumptruck crap people pass around with 900 remote element calls just to get the base dev kit the damn design is built upon.     The OP's site.... glad to see the...

Previously acquired DotVPS.co is merged into Virtora, Jack departs

Dang Oktay just registered virtora.com yesterday. That name I am f'n blah about.  Fads with names.    Virt, virtua, etc. blech! So much with selling the DotVPS brand (was up on WHT two weeks or more ago). Unsure what that says about market conditions (everyone wants everything and wants to pay...

Running a lightweight GUI on your vps via X2Go

Thanks for this... I remain enamored by x2go.  I am an ancient VNC user but haven't used it in many years since Linux-only user. Hope to see more x2go usage, examples, optimization, etc. here.  Folks need to know about the project as it really works well and creates all sorts of interesting...

How do providers manage their hardware?

Spares are only happening usually where you have a full rack commit.  So that eliminates a big chunk of the el cheapo VPS offerers. What you store (usually bottom of rack) depends on diversity of the gear you have.   If standardized on one server line, then it is easy. I typically like to see...

    Positive experience with Dacentec

Yeah it's a great location Mr. Pie for a personal or project box.. Not that the place isn't enterprise ready.  I just wouldn't run a VPS company on rented old gen gear. Colo?  Perhaps I would, but I don't put colo on the US bookends. Been hoping that Dacentec's parent / owner would expand the...

Running a lightweight GUI on your vps via X2Go

Welcome to vpsBoard @mikledep333!  Glad to have you on board. Umm humor me, I use X2Go, like it a lot.  I am not a power user of it, yet. Why would using VNC be a preferred alternative to the X2Go client?  Who is the market for the VNC use? Thanks for the OpenBox how-to part :)

(Searching) Custom built HDD mounting solution

I have an older similar unit and think it has 16 drive trays up front.  It's doable and has been for years.  The gear isn't real abundant and showing up in mass for nickels on the dollar though.  People hold this gear, swap the controller, throw new drives and keep rolling with the stuff.

(Searching) Custom built HDD mounting solution

Good on the Norco cases.  Foxconn certainly has mass density cases also top loaded just like the BackBlaze design.  Quanta probably does also. I went out looking for something similar a while back for mounting small form factor boards plus drives - so double density issue and more complex.  ...
