Each RIR receives additional IPv4 allocation from IANA

I know most people here are mostly concerned with ARIN developments but there are other providers affected in different ways by global IP usage as well. Good for APNIC members like my business who can now get another /22. More information here...

    Xeon E3-1230+32GB from $66/m! Dual Xeon L5639+72GB from $83/m! DDoS Protection! $0.10 IP’s for VPS P

All sorted now. There was a power issue but in my rack only due to a dodgy circuit breaker. Seems once my ticket was put to the right people they were able to answer it properly. :-) All resolved now. I will keep the server and hope service remains stable now. FWIW they don't provide access to...

Ah OK, will clarify my ticket and see if we can work out if that was the cause... Thanks.

    Xeon E3-1230+32GB from $66/m! Dual Xeon L5639+72GB from $83/m! DDoS Protection! $0.10 IP’s for VPS P

They responded to my ticket basically saying they cannot explain the outage and didn't mention the power outage in the DC at all. I am pursuing it further but will likely cancel the service now after this experience... I am not happy with a supplier if they cannot or will not explain an outage...

    Xeon E3-1230+32GB from $66/m! Dual Xeon L5639+72GB from $83/m! DDoS Protection! $0.10 IP’s for VPS P

Are they in the same DC? I wasn't aware of it... Either way Versaweb didn't mention it.

    Xeon E3-1230+32GB from $66/m! Dual Xeon L5639+72GB from $83/m! DDoS Protection! $0.10 IP’s for VPS P

So I signed up for one of the E3 v3 offers on the 7th. It was deployed promptly and the only query I had made during ordering was resolved quickly. Everything was fine till today when I experienced a 44 minute outage with no updates or communication from VersaWeb about the cause. I have a ticket...

    Xeon E3-1230+32GB from $66/m! Dual Xeon L5639+72GB from $83/m! DDoS Protection! $0.10 IP’s for VPS P

If I order from the order page you linked it's not clear which DC the service will be deployed from. How do I specify the location?

@wlanboy how are things going now? :-)

    RansomIT KVM 256 MB (Australia)

@peterw I am not sure what you are asking exactly. Basically if you want DDOS protection with Ransom IT services in Australia I recommend signing up in Sydney and not Adelaide. My experience in Adelaide is that they'll null-route IPs getting attacked where in Sydney they don't need to do this...

    RansomIT KVM 256 MB (Australia)

All services in Sydney are protected with Black Lotus. It's not an extra that you addon; it's just included for everyone there.

    RansomIT KVM 256 MB (Australia)

Thanks for the review and comments everyone. Some places like Singapore will get better routing to the Adelaide location than anywhere in the USA as there is connectivity between Singapore and Perth. Whether links from different countries in Asia go via the US or not is not something I can...

DigitalOcean to add Singapore Region by the end of January

Interesting thread... Happenings in Singapore market also influence Australia a bit but if the peering is poor and not utilising connectivity between Perth and Singapore it is not attractive to the Australian market. If they peer with VOCUS (like basically every provider in Australia does) then...

Mass drive failings linked to accidental gas (fire suppression) release in Sydney data centre

I think it's the pressure change and or noise that is the problem not the gas entering the drives and causing electrical failures in the way you have described. There are videos of people on YouTube yelling at big drive arrays and the noise vibrations do have an effect on disks that is quite...

Mass drive failings linked to accidental gas (fire suppression) release in Sydney data centre

Came across this interesting thread on the AUSNOG mailing lists today. I don't have any equipment in this datacentre myself so am not affected but there must be plenty of unhappy people around after this event: http://lists.ausnog.net/pipermail/ausnog/2014-January/thread.html#22079...

There was minimal interest in these plans from this forum so I updated them for the new year and posted them here instead: http://www.ransomit.com.au/leb_offers @Neo if you are interested in one of the exact plans listed above and not on the website feel free to email me and I will still honour...

Ransom IT KVM offers in Sydney and Adelaide (Australia), 256MB/512MB/1GB, offers starting at $42 ann

Just to be clear, 'Ransom IT Trust' is the full name I do business under and this is the exact name of the legal entity offering these services. There is definitely nothing missing under Australian law to do business the way I do. Aldryic, thanks. :-) I am no fly by nighter and am confident I...

For completeness sake this Page indicates that as I suspected a registered business name is not required (yet): http://www.asic.gov.au/asic/ASIC.NSF/byHeadline/Frequently%20asked%20questions%20on%20the%20new%20ASIC%20business%20names%20service#52

Ransom IT KVM offers in Sydney and Adelaide (Australia), 256MB/512MB/1GB, offers starting at $42 ann

Don't worry, forum threads don't scare me. :-) No offence but I take advice on such matters from my chartered accountant service firm and not forum threads online. If you note the ABR link you will see I've been trading like this since 2008 and prior to that as a sole trader in my own name...

Ransom IT KVM offers in Sydney and Adelaide (Australia), 256MB/512MB/1GB, offers starting at $42 ann

I see. Well we aren't listed because the business name isn't registered nor does it need to be. If we change to a company structure this is something I'd do but while trading as a trust with my own real name to it I don't see the point. :-)

Ransom IT KVM offers in Sydney and Adelaide (Australia), 256MB/512MB/1GB, offers starting at $42 ann

ASIC is for companies only I think. Search the ABR site and you can see us there: http://abr.business.gov.au/SearchByAbn.aspx?abn=58420637227 The business name isn't registered, it's just a trust and I am the trustee myself (it's my business). Cheers, Oliver
