Options for isolating sites: Vms, vs containers, cs different users

I have multiple web sites (and a few other processes) I want to run in an environment that is flexible and as low maintenance as possible. This includes my sites and customer sites, production and development. Most share a common platform (Python, Django, Postgres, Linux (mostly Debian)). I need...

Another day and same old ColoCrossing games - More Magical Employees Photographed Working Elsewhere.

I have come across a lot of companies, in quite a few businesses, that use obvious stock photos on their websites implying, if not directly claiming, that they are photos of their staff or offices.

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

@OnACloud I think @drmike has a point about subsidies: competition is good (for the economy as a whole), but competitive pricing through subsidies is usually bad.

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

Small businesses do not count as far as most governments are concerned. Policy is driven by what big business wants. How much corporate welfare can actually be justified by the public good? Subsidies are just more of the same. I think the ratio is reasonable for the product, and they would...

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

Do you mean that with regard to their entire range of services, of  just these? A lot of people seem happy with their dedis.

DreamCompute Comes Out of Beta And Undercuts Hourly Competitors By 40% On Price

Interesting, so what went wrong, then? I know more about Ceph after reading that, but not what has gone wrong in these cases. Binary lane seem to have been using Ceph even though they did not want distributed storage (or decided that a 20% to 30% penalty for distributed storage was not worth...

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

@fm7 I am a bit confused about what happened at OVH. So they did not lose data at first, but did lose data trying to fix it? With regard to the OVH private cloud, I just have no idea what it should cost so I have no idea what the pricing should be. You could set up something similar on a dedi...

DreamCompute Comes Out of Beta And Undercuts Hourly Competitors By 40% On Price

As you posted in the other thread, OVH has had problems with Ceph as well. Is Ceph immature, or are they using it wrong (maybe through lack of familiarity?)

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

@fm7 not living up what it should do clearly but no data loss, right? If they did deliver the prices would be be very good, and, even as it is, they are pretty competitive.

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

Ah, yes. That does seem rather expensive but I suppose the premium is for the load balancing, automatically moving VMs from a failed host, management of the hosts (not the VMs) etc. I have not idea how much of premium that is worth.

OVH intends to ruin the hosting industry.

The cheapest OVH cloud offering is an EG-7 which gives you 2 vcores, 200GB of storage, 250 Mbps bandwidth for $28/month. The storage is high availability (triple redundant distributed Ceph FS), you get unlimited transfer,  a 99.999% SLA and OpenStack API support. This is a lot cheaper than...

How many hosting accounts do you have?

1 shared hosting account with Nearly Free Speech as an individual - used for PHP based sites, which now means just by personal blog. I have access to several clients' accounts. I have 2 VPSs (Upcloud and Ram Node) used for web hosting, and access to VPSs and dedicated servers used by clients.

@MannDude Thanks, that is much better.

    vpsBoard is now adsBoard

That is what I took him to mean, and the ratio of offer threads to discussion has become too high - especially in the sidebar.

How visitors can trust on your hosting business?

I have to disagree with @RombelIrk. Big providers are not necessarily safer - if an AWS server failure takes your VPS down  it is just as down as if a small providers server fails. In fact, AWS may be less bothered about a single instance failing because they are primarily catering to people who...

Good & Cheap DDOS Protected Windows VPS

I thought there was something, which is why I added the "something is missing" qualification. @Weoxo It looks like you wanted a managed VPS and got an unmanaged VPS. Pay up for a managed service (or hire a freelance sys admin to manage the VPS for you - it usually works out cheaper and you...

Good & Cheap DDOS Protected Windows VPS

I do not think that Frantech handled it well either in one respect: Ashok offered to check the problem. Unless there is something missing from the screenshots he did not do so. He did not have to offer to do that, but having done so he should have done it. A slightly better explanation of where...

httpoxy A CGI application vulnerability for PHP, Go, Python and others

Python web apps are highly unlikely to be affected. The linked page says "Python code must be deployed under CGI to be vulnerable", and Python CGI scripts are a rarity. In addition to that you need to use a library that uses the HTTP_PROXY environment variable.

Good & Cheap DDOS Protected Windows VPS

@Aldryic C'boas is frantech.com anything to do with you? In nay case it is only a holding page. There is frantech.ca, but that only refers people to buyvm.   @Weoxo "Rude" sounds at odds with what everyone else says about BuyVM, or my experience the one time I spoke to them. What exactly...
