drmike and the case of the ten gallon fedora

HostNun would never have felt the urge to start this thread if The Council of Elvira hadn't issued that 33rd canon in 306 A.D.

NinjaHawk Purchased By One of the Giants* of the VPS Industry

*thread title is obvious sarcasm...TMZ's owner claimed on WHT earlier this year that they had higher revenues than KnownHost. edited to add: TMZ's locations are Los Angeles and London so everyone in Ninja's's locations in NYC, Dallas, and Tempe can look forward to a migration (this comes...

    VPS in South America

Correcting myself :)  Host1Plus recently added VPS's in Sao Paulo and they're in low end range.  256MB RAM/15GB storage/1 TB bandwidth @15Mbps for $2 monthly (or $1.54 if you pay annually).  http://www.host1plus.com/vps-hosting/ Ping time to my new Sao Paulo VPS (I got the 512MB plan): 128ms...

planning a free failover dns hosting (Budgetgeek Telecoms dns)

You're going to use a PHP script that was last updated in June 2008 (the majority of the PHP files though are from 2005) and was last tested on Bind version 9.21, and from the looks of the code was probably written for PHP 4.x and MySQL 4.x?

Corgi Tech - New Years Special. VPS Nodes from $7/Month for Life

Labeling Maidenhead as London is misleading but Buffalo to New York City is 400 mi/640km, so to be the same level of deception a provider would have to advertise their Dusseldorf VPS's (about 560km from London) as "London servers" :P

    Is anyone with yaghost?

Their website and client area probably have great uptime and really, really fast dd scores (they're both hosted at RamNode :P ) BUT Based on the test IP in their last WHT listing ( test IP192.227.164.124, ColoCrossing renting servers from HudsonValleyHost) the network their VPS's are hosted on...

Hardware Porn (aka our new backups node)

Francisco goes to Vegas and spends his time taking pictures of  his new conquest...a backup server.  Tragic looks lustfully at the pix and says "Talk about a node, looks good".  DifferentOpinionsNotWanted, barely able to contain his excitement, says "Show me the drives!" Hmmm, just a suggestion...

    Red Hat, Inc Aquires CentOS

Fedora enjoyed a brief period of popularity during 2003/4 as a server OS  after Red Hat went to RHEL and before CentOS became established. flashback: WHT discussion on CPanel+Fedora :)

How do you upload your files to your webserver?

Depends on where it's being uploaded from: 1.SCP if it's being uploaded from another server..and sometimes from workstations for large size uploads 2. Filezilla/SFTP (over private VPN) if it's being uploaded from a workstation (Linux, FreeBSD...no speako Winbloze here)

Looking for good, cheap DDoS protection and Stuff

The ONLY good (i.e. effective) free DDoS protection is unplugging your server from the wall.  :P If you want something good you need to pay $$$.

    Red Hat, Inc Aquires CentOS

Based on some of the goals mentioned in the press release (especially the ones that mention open stack and cloud), I'd say it is more likely they hope to milk the open source community for ideas to fill in a few gaps to accelerate the development cycle and keep enterprise clients from wandering...

Looking for some Benchmarks and a KVM

He's learned from his past mistakes, he's not a bullshit artist, and he seems to have a solid business head on his shoulders.  All 3 of those qualities are rare in the low end world, so +1 (that being said, Jacksonville doesn't fit into my current needs so I  won't be using Crissic unless my...

Looking for some Benchmarks and a KVM

Nice new node specs: I'd ask Crissic about CPU usage though if you plan to do anything really intensive.  In his last LEB offer he said, :"CPU is restricted basically at 100% of 1CPU core for 24/7 usage."

List of VPS/Dedi providers using Colo Crossing

The Flying Cloud Nun summed up one of the problems.  Overload a server to an extreme level, and any activity will cause a CPU spike (HostSlim was famous for this type of overloading...the servers, both CPU and I/O, were so overloaded that just accessing a page in Webmin or logging in via SSH...
