    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

My RPi3 shipped yesterday even though the order confirmation had the shipping ETA for the 8th. :)

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

I read that the 2.5 amp was required, must have misread.

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

One thing I was reading was the RPi3 requires more power than the older versions which I'm not a fan of. The new power requirement means it has to be plugged into a wall and a PC USB port won't cut it anymore. :(

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

I ordered my RPi3 from Element14 (newark.com) and got an update on my order today:

Banana Pi or Orange Pi (not sure if all versions or just the "premium" versions have it).

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

Ordered both. Now it's a race between the RPi3, ODroid C2, and PINE64 to see which one gets to my door first. :)

Mandrill Removing Free Tier - MailChimp

We use SendGrid for SD but I use Mandrill for all of my other projects that don't generate money. Looks like I'm switching to SendGrid which I prefer and is free with some limits.

Some free WHMCS Hooks you might find useful.

It will work with WHMCS 6.x until they disable the SQL Helpers.

That's really strange, it shouldn't be checking the city since it's just their proxy check. Are you sure you have the Proxy Detection credits and not just the minFraud credits?

What error are you seeing? I'll review their API and see if they changed anything.

Should universal internet access be a human right?

I think that internet access should be a privileged (like a driver's license and the ability to legally drive), not a right.

ARM has legs. Real world use.

We're a mostly HP shop at my day job although we have been buying more and more Cisco UCS hardware (we just spent close to a million bucks on around 70 blades). I prefer Cisco over HP in an enterprise environment but for Secure Dragon I prefer Dell over HP for various reasons. We looked into...

ARM has legs. Real world use.

Downtime. I forget the actual figures but the cost analysis of the outage was estimated at over $100 million in losses not including any fines received because of the outage, the loss of income from clients going else where, or the loss of our users who didn't have access to any systems for the...

ARM has legs. Real world use.

The Moonshot is a complete piece of crap. It cost us millions of dollars from an outage it caused our whole data center (one device) because their engineers told us they knew what they were doing but didn't (we had HP on-site to configure it). Management spent weeks at their Texas office where...

ARM has legs. Real world use.

I got the Orange Pi Plus off AliExpress, took 2-3 weeks to get here with the case but since I hadn't had time to play with my other devices anyways it wasn't an issue. The case is a nightmare though, no screws so it's held together with a hope and a prayer pretty much. It took me over an hour to...

ARM has legs. Real world use.

I completely forgot about this thread. I haven't even powered on my Orange Pi Plus or my Banana Pi Pro since I got them. I'll make a point of setting them all up tonight for testing. :)

Are SSL(HTTPS) Downloads Slower Than HTTP?

Some ISPs are known to throttle encrypted traffic so, depending on the ISP, SSL downloads can be significantly slower. When I was using Comcast almost 3 years ago an HTTPS connection would be about 1/10th of the speed of HTTP (this was somewhat resolved when they upgraded everybody to 100Mbps).

Valve / Steam exposed customer data to other customers

Glad I didn't login to Steam on Christmas or Christmas Eve, people would know all of my info (that's already publicly available). :D

BitCoin in the hosting industry case study... who wants to partake?

The majority of clients who pay with bitcoin don't cause any issues. On the other hand, the very few clients who do pay with bitcoin and violate our TOS/AUP are 100x more painful to deal with but that's probably because it's not refundable and they assumed because we accept bitcoin we're OK with...
