I am a consumer. I would never order a server without IPMI of some form. If my server goes down I need to be able to get it back up asap. Right now my server doesn't have IPMI but it will as soon as my provider gets the switch for it setup.

First personal computer - Celeron Processor with 128mb ram and a floppy, zip, and cd drive. The hard drive was under 20gb (don't remember exact size). It ran Windows 98 and was awesome. I remember being able to make phone calls off the modem, lol.

Most VM's on my dedi are duped to KVM machines with Route53 health checks to failover if the dedi doesn't respond.  I'm currently using offloaded MySQL which is backed up daily, I will be moving this to a VM or another dedi soon and adding a backup. All servers are backed up to other storage...

@Francisco - On Proxmox you can clone a machine and turn it into a template. I have a base Windows Server Datacenter image that I use for a template that is pre-licensed and has a script to change the machine name on first start.
