    OOB 'Management' switch recomendations

Well they are pretty cheap new as well.  A new FE 24-port was like $150 about 6 years ago when I bought it.  So them being about $50 on ebay now seems about right.  The ones selling for less than $50 are an even older model so I can't comment on those but if they work, thats all you really need...

    OOB 'Management' switch recomendations

Netgear Prosafe all the way.  You can get used FE models for very cheap.  They are reliable and useful if you don't need a lot of features.  I have had an FE model running for 6-7 years. The best part: power consumption.  Used Ciscos use anywhere from 60-100W.  The newer FE models use anywhere...

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

I have PMed you back and update the script with these changes along with a few more I found.  The new ploop no longer sets a default filesystem, so I made sure ext4 is now the default.  I tested the script on the newest vzctl/ploop available and it works now.  Thanks for the input!

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

We switched over nearly a year ago.  Ploop is the way to go now.   I wrote a script to help the migration from simfs to ploop.  The vzctl conversion process takes the VPS offline during the conversion which could be hours of downtime for large virtual servers.  My script only takes the server...

How did you come up with your company name?

Lets see.  Had quite a few names. Originally, Latency Zero was a game server provider I was involved in 2003.  That formed into lzXtech for VPS Hosting.  My nickname from webhostingtalk in 2005 was devonblzx because of this.  Before the launch, I renamed it to RockMyWeb in late 2006.  This was...

    Iraq 2014 - Viet Nam 1975

Fortunately, Shias are the majority in Iraq and the Iraqi army outnumbers the ISIS by a large margin.  If it was reversed then we could have seen another Rwanda-like genocide. The problem is the Iraqi Army is young and seems undisciplined and unready for the attacks.  It is a horrible thing...

Setup emails in my VPS with the domain reregistered in other provider?

Use an A record for IPv4 or AAAA for IPv6 addresses.  CNAME is used for name to name, not name to IP. http://support.dnsimple.com/articles/differences-between-a-cname-alias-url/ You could try pinging mail.yourdomain.com to verify if it is working or not. So, setup an A record from mail -> IP...

    Which location would you choose?

Judging from my atlas, Los Angeles would be horrible for Australia and Asia, it is on the opposite side of the map. (</sarcasm>). In all seriousness, there is no ideal location for everyone on Earth, the Earth is round and one point is always going to be farthest away from another point.  I...

    Increase vps disk space

Along with sshfs, there is ftpfs.  You can look into Fuse modules that support it or Linux Userland Filesystem.  Note that ftp protocol is insecure and shouldn't be used for sensitive data but if you don't have access to SSH, it is an alternative for data that you don't care about security with...

GVH suspended after minor use of 100TB plan

I've stayed out of this thread since the beginning but who decides what proper use is?  A VPS is a virtual private server, hence, as long as they are using the resources they are given in the package, then it shouldn't ever matter to the host how they use it.  The host should not be concerned...

GVH suspended after minor use of 100TB plan

I'm not here to thrash GVH as I don't know much about them.  I think it should be a lesson for them to prepare their nodes or disclose expected usage speeds before offering a plan that consists of 4GB RAM, 250GB space, and 100TB of bandwidth as I saw that trying to use any of the limits resulted...
