    DD Script

If you have a proper VM, i.e. not OpenVZ, you can measure request latency times to determine this.

Hello, Does anyone know if Feathur is paying out for security vulnerabilities?

Who is going to disappear first - Burst.net/DigiPlus vs. volumeDrive

Well, a company per se can't write a felony-level bad check.  I guess they would go after who actually wrote the check.

Who is going to disappear first - Burst.net/DigiPlus vs. volumeDrive

I should really check up on that legal case, but I forgot my PACER login. :(

GTT Merging nLayer into Tinet ASN

Honestly, I would stay away from GTT. To that end, I can thank zeekill for attacking robert, as it gave them a reason to let us out of our contract.  While I personally like RAS, I can't say I am too keen on the way GTT does things.  nLayer used to be really good, but after GTT bought them, the...

    Off Lease Hardware Vendor

I don't have any experience personally leasing with Datasales, just buying offlease gear from them.  I doubt they will do a lease on used equipment though, as one of the key requirements of their leasing contracts, at least from what people have told me, is that the equipment must be under a...

    Off Lease Hardware Vendor

You can get a lot of this sort of stuff from DataSales.  They sell it off pretty cheap.

[C++] extreme fast counting of files in directory

Actually you should actually use size_t per C99, size_t is meant to be the widest type intended for widths of allocations (in multiples of 1 or more).  So, size_t should be used.

ColoCrossing, Quick to Get Large IP Blocks Issued and Faster to Soil Them

Spamhaus does not start off listing 64 IPs, all listings begin as /32 and then escalate to become wider until the provider responsible for the block does take action. This is what I like to call the "bitching customers" theory.  It's a real theory, and it works.

Hey Xen people - what is rcu_sched?

RCU stands for 'read-copy-update', it's a lockless kernel structure duplication mechanism that allows for changes to be atomically committed. It has nothing to do with Xen or variants like Hyper-V/Viridian, and these sort of processes run on bare metal too.

    Lowend Colo

Well, actually minecraft servers can be a business in a way, one of my clients makes $400k/year off of in-server micro transactions. So I don't really think that the lowend providers are even good for hosting something like Minecraft, because you could still potentially lose sales or whatever...

    TortoiseLabs/Centarra VPS Review

Just for the record, the anti-ddos is only available in our actual datacenter facility (in Dallas).  London isn't DDoS protected at the moment, as that would require doing a GRE tunnel and other sillyness.

Preventing Outbound DDOS - Infected VPS and Blocking Ports

I'd rather have someone going nuts about being suspended than be facilitating network abuse I am unaware of.  This approach described by the OP clearly indicates the latter, no wonder they have multiple Spamhaus listings.

ColoCrossing, Quick to Get Large IP Blocks Issued and Faster to Soil Them

Oh, hell yes they are spam friendly. It just depends on how you are doing business with them.  If you're some random BudgetVM customer they will smack you, but if you go a different route, they will happily rotate your blocks around, up to several times a day.

CoreXchange Sold Yesterday to Zayo / AboveNet / zColo - Today Incero Hikes Prices

Even still, I can sympathize with Gordon's concerns here. I would not want Zayo as my landlord either, considering we are taking 100gbps service from them.  We would now lose a lot of negotiating power that is key to our business if we were using CoreX.

I think he disagrees. [3/5/14, 8:09:42 PM] Robert: Kindly tell this "blergh" person that he's completely speaking out of his ass [3/5/14, 8:09:46 PM] Robert: I've never said that anywhere

    ServerCrate compromised

The restore was a bare metal restore.  The other two nodes had /vz in tact, so the configuration was rebuilt after a reinstall. This is in part, why they recommend putting /vz on it's own filesystem.

    ServerCrate compromised

Well, to clarify, Centarra's only involvement was acting on feedback from Robert concerning what he wanted done with his VLAN, during the intrusion, as well as facilitating remote hands (basically moving his Lantronix KVM around from node to node) to enable investigation, containment and...
