Expectations in regards to ticket reply

Yeah, well okay. But do you usually resolve the issue within 10 minutes or so? Again, pointless replies are stupid.

I wish I could have an all-volunteer staff.  Sounds awesome for my pocketbook.  :(

    Anyone else use IRCCloud?

IRCCloud is pretty nice, the guy who runs it (RJ) used to run last.fm, and is an overall pretty cool guy to work with. IRCCloud is also working, as far as I know, to implement IRCv3 specifications, so... that is pretty good too.

People with this attitude are why helpdesks give worthless responses now.

    Bitcoin VPS/Dedi

If they do it, they will be given a 'bulk' CPU SLA level.  For bitcoin, it seems really unprofitable to me.  I don't see how you would get any coins on an e3-1270v2 when you are competing against people with ASICs.

    Yes, he would.

Preparations to run an IRCd daemon

A good ballpark rule here is, don't trust anything in the stack you don't control any more than you are forced to.  Using OpenVZ forces you to trust the host environment a lot more than the alternatives. Of course, either way they could MITM you, as network traffic has to pass through the host...

Preparations to run an IRCd daemon

So, let me get this straight. Earlier, you complain of being hit by 20gbit on one node, which would be indicative in the context of administrating an IRC network, of an "advanced persistent threat" (I hate that phrase, but certainly seems to apply here). Okay.  So, you have some OpenVZ VPS...

OVH stops taking orders, everything is "sold out"..

We used OVH for our prototyping phase.  It worked out, and we would have kept their services but their hardware was not really in my opinion reliable enough.  We had over 20 HDD failures across all of our nodes at OVH.

ShadowIRCd is discontinued, but there is a fork of it you could use called Pendulum.

FBI spreading backdoor software via 4chan kid material

They use the DDoS-protected tunnel services to obfuscate where the actual hosting servers are for their activities.

Google Checkout ends November 20, 2013.

Well, at first I thought supporting Bitcoin was a stupid idea.  However, they can't chargeback on Bitcoin, so if you terminate them for abuse, you don't have to worry about them trying to get their money back... this actually deters a lot of Bitcoin users from abusing the service -- in fact, I...

Kimsufi is fast to a VPS, glacial to home. Why?

This is actually ICMP exception deprioritization.  OVH runs mostly cat 6504/6509's on their backbone network, with SUP 2T cards, so they want to save CPU for routing exceptions/bgp update load I suspect.
